Chapter 8
Victors POV: Well, we did it. World Champions.that was something I never got tired of hearing. For years, Shae-Lynn and I always believed that we were just as good as anyone who won the world title. To actually be officially crowned World Champions thoughthat was something else. It was a strange feeling though. So much was ending. Our amature career was over. Shae-Lynn made it very clear that this would be her final year as an amature skater and I knew that if I wanted to continue to skate with her, I would have to join her in the professional ranks. I would be lying if I said that was exactly what I wanted but more than anything, I wanted to keep skating with Shae-Lynn. If that meant turning professional, Id do it. Only to be with her. Days passed and finally she brought it up. Victor, you know we have to do it She began softly, lying in my arms one morning as the sunlight trickled in. I sighed. I know, honey She shifted and lifted herself up to look at me. Vic, sometimes I wonder if you do. You cant keep usno, her, holding on, Her face looked troubled. II dont.. I sat up. You dont what? I prompted, feeling my voice raise. I hated to get angry at her. I wasnt angry at her. This whole situation was taking its toll on me. Despite how absolutely happy I was with Shae-Lynn, my situation with Maikki killed me. Dont yell at me, She answered angrily, throwing the covers off herself and attempting to get out of bed. "I'm just facing facts." I sighed and reached over to grab her elbow gently. Shae-Lynn, Im sorry, I said quietly. Her face softened. So am I, she answered, sitting back down next to me. This is just really taking its toll on me. I love you so much and I want all the secrets to end, It killed me to see her face so troubled. I kissed her forehead gently, pulled her close to me and pulled the covers tightly around us.Me too, So youll tell her? She asked, her eyes trusting. I nodded. Yes, Days passed and I decided to finally have that conversation with Maikki. I was ready. As hard as it would be, the relationship would be over and I was free to be with Shae-Lynn. I grabbed my things and was just about to leave to meet her when there was a knock at the door. Confused, I went to open it. I hadnt expected company. I opened the door and was shocked to see Maikki standing there. Maikki?! I exclaimed, reaching over to give her a hug. I was supposed to pick you up at the airport in an hour. I pulled away to look at her. Her dark hair was pulled haphazardly back into a low pony tail and her face looked strange without her usual, happy smile. I decided it would be best if I took an earlier flight, she answered coolly as she walked quickly past me into my house. Shut the door, She ordered. She had never acted like this before. Ok, I obliged, as I shut the door slowly. Are you ok? She shrugged and laughed bitterly. I dont know, you tell me. How would you feel if you found out your fiance has been cheating on you for months? My mouth dropped open. Maikki, h...how? She smirked angrily. "You two weren't as careful as you thought. I have friends around here. They already noticed the way you two acted around each other but I shrugged it off. But, enough of them saw you two kissing and sneaking away together after practices to put two and two together,". "Maikki, I..." She held up her hand. Save it! Do you know how humiliating this will be? How my whole family will judge me? How the world will judge me? Or were you too busy humping your partner that you didnt even stop to consider that,. Tears began to stream down her face as she grew angrier and angrier. I knew she would be hurt. I just hated to have her find out this way. Maikki, if I could spare you any of that, I would. I care about you too much to hurt you like this. Im sorry, She turned and looked at me. Oh really? I nodded. You know I would, Prove it, I felt my stomach knot. Hhow would I do that? End things with her, My stomach fell. What? You heard me. End things with her. If you care about me so much, if you want to spare me hurt and humiliation, end it with her and focus on us and our wedding, I looked up, desperately. Maikki, I cant do that, Fury flashed through her dark brown eyes. Cant or Wont, Victor? She snarled. I didnt answer. She got up and walked indifferently across the room. Are you sure, Victor? she asked, her attitude totally different than a moment ago. Yes, Im sure, I answered, deflated. I cast my eyes on the ground to avoid looking at her. Are you sure that would be good for Shae-Lynn? I looked up quickly. What the hell is that supposed to mean? She laughed. Oh please, Victor. Shut up. You know I could never.would never do anything to herphysically, I had never heard her talk like this but she seemed dead serious. What do you mean, not physically, She shrugged. How good could this be for your skating career? I mean whod want to watch an adulterous woman skate? I mean, granted, they did overlook the situation with Nikolai. But twice? They have names for people like her. And with you who seemed so happy with that nice girl Maikki? My heart raced. She could be right. This can't be happening. I hate to do this sweetheart but Ive got too much to loose. And I am not ready to lose you, Shae-Lynn loved skating more than anything. How could I be the reason that it was taken away from her? I couldnt do it. Maikki, please She turned on her heels and walked closely to me. Please nothing, Victor! She yelled. I have been pushed around long enough. I will not be made a foolnot anymore! She took a deep breath. Now, Im giving you your choice. End things with her. No more skating. Visits under my supervision. Or, you can stay with her and be responsible for the downfall of Canadas Dynasty in Dance Bourne and Kraatz. You will never again be that sweet duo. People will doubt your morality and your integrity. Youll be responsible for her failure. Take your pick,. I had never seen such anger in her before. This must have hit her hardto the point that it was literally driving her crazy. So crazy, that I didnt want to risk that her threat was just that, a threat. I loved Shae-Lynn too much to do that. I couldnt take that away. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. NoIll end it,.
