Chapter 10
Victors POV: As I turned the corner, I checked the clock for what seemed to be the hundredth time in ten minutes. I hoped Shae didnt notice how anxious I was. I had called David earlier and begged him to help me pull off what I believed to be probably the most romantic thing for Shae-Lynn. There was no way I could do it myself and I felt horrible having David do it, especially after everything he had to do since the pairs controversy days earlier, but he seemed happy to do it. Vic? I turned to see Shae looking at me questionably. Yup? Where are we going? She grinned, giving me a look. She knew something was up. Uher, nowhereI figured we could drive around anduh She turned to face me completely, the smile on her face growing by the second. What have you got up your sleeve, Kraatz? Its a surpriseI cant tell you, She hit my arm gently. You know how I feel about surprises, Vic, She laughed. I nodded. Yeah, I know. You are so impatient so you hate them. Too badyoure going to have to wait for this one, I joked back. She rolled her eyes. Obviously, there is nothing I can do to change your mind so Im not going to even bother,. Good,. Suddenly, my phone began to ring. David and I had agreed that when everything was all set up, he would call my phone. That would be my signal that everything was ok and it was time. My heart lurched into my throat. Shae-Lynn reached over and grabbed my phone. David? She said, sounding baffled. Why is Dave calling you? I gulped. UhI have other friends, Shae, I teased. She smirked. I know that. Its just that hes so busy lately. It just seems weird, thats all,. She looked at me warily. What are you planning Vic? Is it going to be something where people jump out of things and scare me to death because I really cant handle that! Her voice took on a new form of shrillness. You dont have some tape recorder going that youre going to play at the Team Canada end of the season party are you? Shae, only dogs can hear you! I laughed. She looked at me incredulously. VictorI was just singing to the Backstreet Boys five minutes ago, I shrugged. I wasnt the one who wanted to keep that station,. She looked shocked. Shae, Im only kidding. On my life, I am not doing anything to embarrass you, She looked at me warily. You swear? I nodded. I swear. Really, I think youre going to like itI hope anyway,. I went back to concentrating on the road and getting us to our final destination. Glancing out of the corner of my eye, I saw her features soften. Im sure I will, She answered confidently. We continued along the road until we finally reached where I had decided to take her. I parked the car and turned off the ignition. Where are we? She smiled, looking happily confused. Its still a surprise. Listenclose your eyes and give me your hand, What are you up to, Vic? The expression on her face showed that she was anything but angry. Feeling confident, I shook my head. Youll find out soon enough, Shae-Lynn. Now, close your eyes and promise not to peek, She laughed. Youre crazy but fine,. She squeezed her eyes shut and relaxed back in her seat. I quickly got out of the car and rushed to her side. Taking her hand gently in mine, I helped her out of the car. Leading her clumsily along, she began to giggle as she tripped over her feet. You would think that after all of these years studying so hard to be graceful, Id have walking down to a science, I joined her laughter. It was amazing how such a little thing - - laughter - - could bring me so much joy. It was so bewildering to me. Well, dont worry. I wont let you fall, I responded sincerely. I saw her smile softly. Never did before, she answered softly. We walked a little more in silence. Are we almost there? she asked, her voice full of excitement. I glanced over at her. She really is the most beautiful person, I thought to myself. Obviously, she was dressed beautifully but, there was just so much more to her. She wasnt afraid to be herself, goofy quirks and all. At that moment, she had a content smile on her face and with her eyes shut so tight, she looked so innocent and trusting. I just felt so lucky to be with her. Almost. Youre not peeking, are you?. She shook her head vigorously. Laughing at her apparent, child-like excitement, I led her right to where I wanted and we stopped. The excitement was obvious on her face. I wish I felt like that, I thought as the nervousness overtook me. I glanced around. Everything was perfect. David had really outdone himself. Shae-Lynns POV Feeling the wind on my face, I knew we were outside, I just didnt know where. Maybe we were just walking to another restaurant. I didnt careI was just excited to see what Victor was planning. He was so nervous in the car, I knew it had to be something big. I gripped his hand as I almost trippedagain. Suddenly, we stopped. Can I open my eyes now? I asked anxiously. The curiosity was killing me and he knew it. I heard him take a deep breath. Yesopen them, I quickly opened my eyes and gasped. Oh my god, I managed to choke out as my eyes filled with tears. A place that was once so cold, so desolate, so empty was beautiful and permeating with such warmth, I had to pause and catch my breath. Victor had taken me back to the cave that we huddled together the night prior to this one. Looking around, I couldnt believe it was the same place. There were hundreds of candles and an abundance of white and red roses everywhere. Set up in the middle of the area was a small table and two chairs and over in the corner, a small campfire had been built. The tears began to trickle down my cheeks as I began to really take it all in and realize how much work must have gone into this. I turned around and faced him, unable to hide the growing smile on my face. How did youhow was this? I... I paused, not finding the right thing to say. Thank you, I smiled in between tears. The look of worry on his face was quickly replaced with a look of relief. A grin slowly spread on his face. I gotta confess, ShaeI didnt get to set this up. I have to give Dave credit for actually getting this all together in such short notice, I laughed. So thats why he kept calling you,. He nodded and laughed. You thought all this up. Thats all that matters to me, His face took on a deep red shade. Its not that big of a deal. I just wanted to make you happy is all, I took his other hand in mine. Its a big deal to me, I answered seriously. We paused as we looked at each other intenselyso intensely that I felt my heart begin to race in my chest. He looked so nervous. I didnt know what to think. Are you ok? I asked gently, moving closer to him. He nodded. Im better than I have been in a long time, He admitted softly, looking down. He then lifted his head and looked deeply into my eyes. I think its because of you, Shae-Lynn, I stood there in shock. Could he be telling me what I thought he was telling me? What I hoped he was telling me. Could this be real? It seemed almost like a dream. Victors POV: She looked so beautiful at that moment. I looked at her closely and tried to memorize every feature of her so that I could just remember it forever.the way the candlelight reflected in those chocolate eyes of hersthe way it made her skin and golden hair seem to glow.the way she was nervously biting her lower lip- - a habit shes had since the very first day I met her- - the way that slow, dazzling smile of hers was growing on her face with every growing second. Suddenly, the nervousness and fear I had been feeling all night seemed to vanish. This was Shae-Lynn. She was the person that I had been through more emotional highs and lows than anyone. She was the girl that I could laugh about anything withthe girl that I could tell anything and know that she wouldnt think any less of me. She was the girl that I was absolutely, crazy in love with I took a deep breath. Shae-LynnI dont know how and I dont know when butIve fallen in love with you, The smile on her face began to grow. Her eyes began to sparkle happily as they filled with tears. You.you love me? She asked shakily. I nodded and moved closer to her. I love youI love you more than I have ever loved anyone. I love your smile, I love your laugh, I love your drive, I love your dorky sense of humor she began to laugh, sniffling back the tears that were flowing in small rivers down her cheeks. I moved my head closer and rested my forehead on hers. I love YOU, I whispered. Shae-Lynns POV These were the words I had waited so long to hear. It just didnt seem real. I lifted my hands and placed them gently on the sides of his face, just gazing into his eyes as the tears continued to fall. I hated being such an emotional person! Youre not saying anything, he commented with a nervous laugh. I smiled and laughed gently. Is this a dream?. He smiled softly at me and shook his head. Its as real as it gets, he replied. Only you would do something so amazing, I muttered. reaching over and pulling him gently in a hug. He wrapped his strong arms around me and held me close, filling me with that warm, safe feeling I only got when I was with him. I love you too, I whispered into his ear. I heard sigh and pull me closer to him. I felt his fingers gently running through my hair and I felt his breath, so warm and comforting on my ear. Sensing how close his face was to mine, I turned it to face him, wanting so strongly to kiss him. We pulled away slowly to look into his eyes. For the first time, I was now able to put a label on that wonderful way he was looking at me. He loved me. It was wonderful. I bit my lip nervously as he reached over and gently brushed my hair out of my faceso gently I almost couldnt feel it. Glancing down at his soft lips, I couldnt fight the urge of needing to feel them on mine. Eagerly, yet slowly and tentatively we leaned in and our lips finally touched in a gentle kiss. Unlike the first kiss that we had experience days earlier, we were confident and sure in what we were doing. Our lips moved expertly in synch with each other as the passion within us began to build. As he wrapped his arms tightly around my body, our kiss began to deepen, making me dizzy in the process. It was amazing to me what an effect he was having on me now. After all these years, just the slightest touch of his hand was enough to make my heart skip a beat. The feeling of his lips upon mine was amazing. The kiss continued until the passion and intensity of it all caused us to pull away for air. Unwilling to break the physical contact we had just shared, we pulled away only a short distance and rested our foreheads against each other, breathing heavily. It all seemed too good to be true. Come here, He whispered softly to me. I moved slowly back into his arms and we wrapped our arms around each other. Rubbing my back gently, we stood there, in exhilarated silence, just happy to have finally found each other.
