Chapter 8
~Nikolai's POV~ I was going to get them for this. First her dratted boyfriend punches me and then Shae, who I had helped to train had testified against me. I didnt want to spend the next 10 years of my life in jail. I had, darn it, been convicted on two counts of assault. One of these days Your cell, Mr. Morozov, The guard said, interrupting my thoughts. I walked in and the door banged shut behind me. Suddenly, a huge shadow detached itself from a nearby wall. I could just barely make out a face and arms. I myself am a fairly tall man but this guy was enormous! He was over seven feet tall and must have weighed over three hundred pounds. I felt my knees begin to knock. So, I began, trying to make casual conversation, What are you in here for? Beating up tiny little buggers like you. ~Elviss POV~ Shae was having a nap in the afternoon because Shania had kept her up all night with a cold. Tackelberry, my dog, needed a walk and I decided to take my daughter with me. Strapping her into the front carrier, I grabbed Tacks leash and we headed for the nearest park. It was a beautiful spring day and Shania was smiling away. I stopped to let the baby smell the flowers. No. Apparently she wasnt in favour of the idea. Shed only started talking a few weeks ago and already she was disobeying me. * * * ~Shae-Lynns POV~ I woke up just in time to see Elvis and Shania returning from their walk. The sun was shining down on them and Shania seemed to have fallen asleep. They made such a cute picture. I took Tackleberry from Elvis and undid the dogs leash while my fianc unstrapped our daughter. We put her to bed and went back to planning the reception for our wedding. We didnt have much left to do. Originally we were supposed to be getting married at the beginning of April but then Nikolai came along and screwed that all up. ~Elviss POV May 22nd~ My wedding day had finally arrived and I was incredibly nervous. It was to be a small ceremony, with only family members and a few close friends, but I felt that there were hundreds of eyes on me. I had never been comfortable wearing suits and was especially upset that I had been coerced into a penguin suit for the occasion. After an indeterminable wait, the wedding party finally started down the aisle. The first member of the group was my niece, Anna, acting as flower girl. She was followed by Maikki, Tatiana, and Shae-Lynns sister; the bridesmaids. Jamie Smith made a gorgeous maid-of-honour. She had refused to look like a toilet role cozy and was dressed in a simple yet elegant, blue dress with short sleeves and a long, straight skirt. The bridal march startled me out of my reverie. Shae appeared, framed in the doorway, with her father on her arm. My breath caught in my throat and my mouth fell open as I stared at my beautiful bride. She appeared unusually calm and composed and was wearing just enough make-up to enhance her natural beauty. Like Jamie, she hadnt chosen a particularly fancy dress. It had a halter-style top and flowed down to her feet, hugging all the right places. At the hem there was a border of tiny pink roses and green leaves. Her hair was swept up and the veil was attached to a band of fresh pink roses. She smiled and her face lit up. How did I manage to get so lucky? Her sparkling brown eyes met mine and she began to walk slowly down the aisle as if drawn by some force. She never ceased grinning and her smile calmed my nerves. Eventually she stood next to me. We joined our hands and I noticed that her palm was slightly moist. She was as nervous as I was but was somehow managing not to show it. We turned together to face the priest. The ceremony was beautiful, but I didnt pay much attention as I was distracted by the angelic vision at my side. I was jerked to alertness when Shae squeezed my hand. It was time to say our vows. Shae-Lynns voice was clear and steady when she said those two wonderful little words. I do. Now it was my turn. I paid close attention when the priest asked me if I promised to love and protect Shae for as long as I lived. I do. I turned to Shae, who was grinning from ear to ear. I relaxed and smiled back at her as I slid a wedding band of white gold onto her finger. I now pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss the bride. This was something I was delighted to do and I complied immediately. Pulling Shae towards me, we locked our lips together. When we broke apart, all of the guests clapped. I grinned, and my Shae blushed. Man and wife, it had a nice ring to it.
