| You step inside the forest. The air is rich and filled with exotic, woodsy smells. There is a mesmerizing tune in the wind, and you look around to see where it is coming from. You gasp slightly. Everywhere you look, hundreds of glowing, pulsating lights flutter about. "Don't." Charmaiel whispers. "They would make it so you long to stay in these woods forever." She looks at you curiously. "I have yet to meet a human so curious as you are. I wonder you are not afraid." You shrug a little. "These woods are infamous. I merely wished to see for myself if they were real." You look around some more, but avid staring directly into the lights. The music grows a little louder. There are dark trees everywhere. Not very impressive, except for the fairies. They look like any other woods you might pass through on your way to Huggle or Shwee. Suddenly, your breath is taken away. The dark trees have dissappeared, and you are surrounded by bright trees, sparkling with dew. Their leaves look almost like jewels. Timidly, you touch one. As you touch it, lots of tiny lights jump off the surface. You look down at your feet. You are standing on a bright, emerald green. It looks so soft. You bend down and run your hand across it. It feels like velvet. "Queen Charmaiel!" thousands of tinkling female voices fill the air. A small, dark green light zips towards you and Charmaiel. It quickly turns into a life size fairy. Wait a minute. . . "Flake, this is the traveller you saw this morning." You are afraid to look into her eyes, so you keep looking down. "It's okay! I'm a pixie, not a fairy." "It's true," Charmaiel assures you. You look up. No wonder she doesn't have wings. Her long, dark green hair reaches to the velvety ground, and her glittering black eyes stare straight into yours. You're scared. Suppose they were just tricking you? "Flake, show the stranger around." Charmaiel smiles slowly. "I'm sure he would love to stay in the Forest for a while." "You better do what she says," Flake whispers. "You can't disobey the Fairy Queen, you know." |
