| Wiccans are not as what our Christian counterparts (the extremists at least) would have you believe. They would have you think we kill animals and/or children for sacrifice and that we worship the devil. Both of which are not true. In ancient days Wiccans would leave offerings of food or gold as the Egyptians and the Greeks did. We believe in a divine power that is both male (The God) and female (The Goddess). The two balance each other out, like fire and water or earth and wind. We believe that what we do will in turn come back around to us. How it comes back to us, we cannot know so we use our magick for good. We dont use magick on someone who does not want our help. We dont go off and advertise ourselves as some sort of service, but if someone comes to us for help, we would be happy to oblige. We do not harm others unless in self defense. We live by a set of rules known as the Wiccan Rede. You can find that here To really explain what Wicca is I am going to take a quote from Silver Ravenwolfs Teen Witch; Wicca for a new generation. "Wicca is a nature based, life affirming religion that fallows a moral code and seeks to build harmony among people, and empower the self and others". This really sums up the basic idea of what Wicca is. Wiccans and other Neo-pagan practitioners live by thirteen basic principles of belief; I. Celebrate God through religious rituals. Most rituals correspond to set days of the year others fallowing the phases of the moon and others the seasons. II. Know right from wrong, live in harmony with the ecosystem and it inhabitants. III. Acknowledge that you have powers that others do not try to access and strive to strengthen them. IV. Believe in God, both masculine and famine, the two sides are equal and balance each other out. V. Know that energies exist both seen and unseen; Collective Unconscious- psychic connections between people plants, insects and spirit; Inner Planes- powers of the mind. To think a thing is to create a thing. VI. We have no church. We have teachers/leaders, but our path is purely our own. VII. Keep an open mind. Religion, power of the world, magickal applications, wisdom and faith function as one. VIII. How you incorporate the Wiccan Laws into you life determines weather you are a witch, IX. Respect all life because it must exist for evolution to occur, X. Only resent other religions for claiming themselves the one true religion. XI. There is no right way to practice Wicca; it is what you make of it. XII. We do not worship or believe in the concept of the devil. XIII. We work with nature, not against it. We respect everyone and their choice of path. We only exclude those that are self destructive or have the potential or history of hurting others. |
