64 hashers gathered on that fateful afternoon at the site across Carita Baka Baka to do the joint Krakatau-Betawi run, and yes, a good turnout indeed. Those who came early didn’t want to miss out on the lovely Betawi snacks
(
maybe they were too scared they wouldn’t finish the run early enough to
have the snacks ).
Hands
and legs, both hairy and neat were doused in Sari Puspa, to deny the poor
mosquitoes their daily feed.
There
were three runs set by our hares, David “Notaris” and Liman. Medium,
Long and Tsunami runs. The mishap on boxing day last year has served to
increase everyone’s vocab by one more word…..Tsunami, a word now
reduced to hashdom!!!
The
run started at three and everyone was in high spirits, especially our
Fibreman, who fueled up with a mug of Bintang just before starting. Was it
the heat of the day or was it the Bintang, mate?
The
out trail took us up a hill and that was a preview of what lay waiting for
the tough hashers. The front runners shouted “Check Back!” which had
some back runners scramble back, only to find that it was a dirty joke.
The
Tsunami/Long split came and the tough ones opted for the Tsunami bit,
which turned out to be a long walk/swim in the river followed by more
uphill assaults, quite characteristic of our hare, Notaris.
The
front runners came in at six and the laggards ambled in close to seven
o’clock, the scribe being one of them. The circle was well under
way….just as well since the run was too short indeed.
Hash
Music, our dear KK, was in top form and the piss pourers too many. A
healthy and welcome change. Keep it up, guys (pun?).
The
run discussion was colorful, with run comments given in different
languages; Don “Suka Pussy” Reeves in Japanese, Soto Betawi in Hokkien,
F**k U 2 in Hindi, Pies Stupid in Sign Language which was beautifully
explained to us by none other than Nick “F**king Shirley” Hayes.
Everyone agreed on good/excellent runs, but one wonders, why the hares
were sitting on ice throughout the run discussion!!
Circle
was closed and social drinking and ‘makan’ continued on site. The more
adventurous ones adjourned to the Blue Moon for more ‘whatever’
