KRAC-A-DAWNA’s ORGANIC COTTON, VEG-DYED FABRICS & GARMENTS
Early
in the life of our farming experience it became obvious that Krac-a-dawna would not
be truly viable unless we strove to seek organic solutions for local commercial crops. Cotton, which
is grown by small and marginal farmers over 50,000 hectares of land in H.D.Kote taluk, became the
bee in our bonnet. Over 65% of India’s pesticide use is on cotton alone. With GM cotton in the offing our challenge to grow
organic
cotton was huge.
Many
years of R&D have grown towards our integrated vision of SATHYAKHADI. Gandhiji’s convinction
that rural emancipation and progress is intrinsically linked to local production of handspun and
handloom cloth holds more relevance than ever today; no country in the world can do it like we can:
globalization does not have to be the end of khadi, but can be a new beginning for thousands in the
handloom and agricultural sectors.
SATHYAKHADI,
or true khadi seeks to generate a sustainable cotton production system, by and for local
communities, utilizing the skill of farmers, spinners, weavers and vegetable dyers.
Krac-a-Dawna is the first supplier of organic cotton to Sathyakhadi which trains spinners and supports handloom weavers to produce 100% rurally produced organic fabric. We also yarn-dye and tie-dye on custom order. Swatches can be sent by post on request.
Click to view our garment range (1) & (2); custom order designs based on a customer sample can be produced in small quantities.
The more sathyakhadi is sold the more
cotton farmers will go organic.
