Sensui Shinobu has seven different personalities, only four of which are shown in the series (I was a little confused as to how many, since I didn't get that "Sensui" and "Minoru" were the same at first). These vary from the general description of Sensui as follows: Minoru: This persona is the one we first see in the series. He is more or less a philosopher-type person who keeps a cool head about him, even though his ego is quite inflated. He is an excellent strategist, and seems to be willing to do anything *cough* to get people to side with him. And, yes, like Kazuya said in the dub, he is quite talkative...and seems to have a thing for double entendres in the J version. Kazuya: This persona is that of a Yakuza thug (note that "Kazuya" and "Yakuza" are anagrams in Roman letters). He is extremely violent and unpredictable, and seems to be the one that's the most stereotypically 'insane' of all of Sensui's personae. A gun at the end of his arm [Japanese- Kikoujuu- "hard energy/ki gun"] announces his presence. Shinobu: The original personality, shown in flashbacks, and also later in the series. I think of him as how Sensui was when he was a teenager, innocent, very idealistic, and somewhat naive. There is a division, it seems, between what he was in the past, and what the personality is today, even if he is stuck at the 16-year-old mindset, probably because of post-traumatic stress and the influence of the other personae. He seems to turn a lot [but not all] of his hatred for humanity inwards on himself as opposed to the others, which project it outwards. . This personality is the one Itsuki is in love with, and also the one who can use Sei-kou-ki ('sacred light energy"). Naru: The only female persona, who doesn't actually get to appear in the anime. She tends to whine, cry, and throw tantrums a lot, and otherwise acts like a rather irrational fangirl-type. I think of her as a projection of Sensui's hatred of females, given a persona as to mock how Sensui thinks of them (weak, whiny, petty, et cetera). However, in the dub, she is described more as an emotional outlet for Sensui [since "boys don't cry"] than a vessel of mockery...the reality could actually be a mix of both. And yes, the personalities do argue, and you get to see it in the last few episodes before Toushin Yuusuke appears and kills him. Interesting stuff... |
