| The ground burns with golden brown chestnut trees in full bloom. Underfoot the soil is soft resembling their hands; colors which inspire the eye quietly suffocate the air.
Hindered eyes fall behind the detailed backdrop left by each presence. Every second changed, moved in and by an individual. Dazed words leave their lips but vanish into the cold white velvet fog. Under the dim night sky the stars play the role of fireflies. They dont need anyone else, assured & confident that this world will be gentle. The girl knows how to depend on the Winter snow; the boys faith stays with the Summer sun. Between this reassuring pattern comes Spring and awakens the two from their slumber; a cold fate. But their calming walk through the chestnut tree is always interrupted and brought back to reality. Sometimes love can mean pain. ~*~ What if, he asked as he pushed off the bridge railing and stepped down onto the middle of the snow-covered pavement, what if? It took all boys effort to keep his mouth from being snapped shut as bitter cold air escaped his lips. I wanted to meet you as if it were fate, ever since this whole thing started As his eyes met hers he freed a silver trinket from his hands into the snow. He spat into it right after, angered by the way she hadnt said anything. What if, fate had not played with our lives, what if?! Quiet, the girl closed her eyes. Today she noticed the world spun in silence & if you listened closely, she observed you could almost hear the soft crisping sound of winter creep over the lake and freeze over. A familiar feeling came over the girl, for everyday during this Winter month the same reoccurring dream had visited her. She would find herself asleep under an elopement of ice, shaken and immobile her own body would fade away from her. Just as the final part of her would slip she remembered, he would come running and save her. In every dream, he came. I dont believe in fate. She whispered. He couldnt hear her. I dont believe in fate! She shouted louder shaking off already frozen bits of tears. At least, she didnt until the night he didnt show up in her dreams. ~*~ The more time the boy spent trying to forget the more his thoughts were taken up by her. Beyond the moment of their ending he worked to erase. Under the punishing sun his skin cracked and rippled brown dessertic canyons. Empty he slaved away during the day; yet he was blind to see that it was the Rains love watching over his garden when he could not. Sleepless in the night he paused by the window, haunted and fearful of his own thoughts. In his shadow a shuddering grown man stood by the open window all too fearful to close it. Blind to see that as he unconsciously drifted to sleep the Rain tapping on his open window had sung him to a better dream. For the boy knowing how bad his heart would ach encouraged him enough to wake up every morning and face the Summer sun. ~*~ Warned by the cold she walked out anyway. Tricked by the stars she followed them to a familiar place, below her the sound of frozen water. Restless the girl fell down to her knees and searched. Feeling for anything hard, the piece that would stabilize her heart. Her ice-covered hands yearned to feel the Summers warmth, his summer warmth. Frozen, she let herself become frozen, like in her dreams her body drifted away. Blind to see he had followed the open window moments after to discover his locket frozen in her hands. What if fate had not played with our lives? |
