Senseless Ramblings on America

The Mid-Term Elections

I found myself the other night not glued to my Playstation 2 or to Final Draft plugging away and trying to write, but rather I found myself reading back issues of Green Lantern and compelled to watch CNN and the election coverage. Not that it wasnt a major election or anything, but the same thing happened back in 2004, I felt compelled to watch the election coverage. I hate politics and I think that most politicians are lying, cheating and perverted old men who have an issue with power and need to be in control. Thats not to say that there arent any genuine politicians, but the men and women who run our country today are quite questionable both morally and ethically. I mean to be a Congressional page is a fantastic opportunity for a young man interested in politics but the last thing you think of is being hit on by some waspy old man. And isnt it great how Mark Foley turned the whole thing one the already sullied Catholic Church, whether or not the old priest in Massachusetts did anything with Foley its amazing how quickly Foley came out and dragged the Catholic Church into the mess. Ahhnold was re-elected Governator

The 2006 Midterm election campaigns really made me hate politics even more than I already do. For at least two months every commercial break had at least one political ad where someone running for any specific office completely bashed their opponent. Both the Republicans and the Democrats tore into each other trying to make the other look bad, but mudslinging this day and age seems to have lost its fervor. Somewhere between the CBS news team, including Dan Rather, getting bashed and ousted for false reports about President Bush and questioning John Kerrys patriotism, mudslinging doesnt necessarily have an overall effect on the outcome of an election. In New York State for instance, newly elected democratic congressman Michael Arcuri won the central New York seat over Republican Ray Meier. I bring this up because for weeks the Republican National Committee broadcast commercials talking about Arcuri as a local District Attorney who failed to act in the sentencing of a rapist or who Wrote an outstanding letter to the parole board for a committed sex offender who was released and again committed a sex offense. Those are some serious charges and some serious bashing of the democratic candidate from New York. Mudslinging of this kind would definitely lead a voter to do some research or change their opinion. However, Arcuri won by 15,000 votes, a decently large margin.

Ill give President Bush some credit, he has taken the Republican loss in stride and he knows that things are going to change. He appears to be the harbinger of these changes as he announced the resignation of Donald Rumsfeld. And while this next statement may grab some kind of criticism, he was very tactful in his news conference yesterday where despite the loss; he joked with reporters and welcomed Nancy Pelosi into her new role with welcome arms. Bush has a very short period of time to save a legacy that in reality is one of the worst in Americas history. But with the congressional shake-up and the shuffling of Bushs cabinet, time will tell if he was truly just a puppet to activities on a much grander scale. Now that the tide had turned lets start bringing our troops home and end the backdoor imperialism that has been going on since October of 2001.

The Other Big News

There was something else happening on Election Day that made the major headlines on every major news website and major news outlet which I found rather funny. Under the announcements of victories and voting problems throughout the country, possibly the most shocking news all day came through. Britney Spears and K-Fed finally divorced. I bring this up not because I care, but because its funny that voter turnout in America is very low but everyone pays attention to K-Fed and Britney divorcing. Slackers, white trash and scumbags all over America lost all hope when K-Fed just couldnt hang on to his hot wife and his album SOARED to #151 on the Billboard charts. Because of young Americas obsession with celebrity and the theme of this website, I couldnt help bringing this up. Granted Americas poptart and Americas Most Hated have produced one of the cutest babies I think Ive ever seen, sometimes you cant help but wonder why anyone as successful as Britney Spears would marry a loser like a back-up dancer Kevin Federline. And the fact that this made major headlines on the same day as one of the most important elections in American history just blows my mind.

The funniest part about the whole Britney Spears divorce is one of the rumors circulating as to why she finally filed for divorce. Supposedly Federline threw a temper tantrum and broke things in the house and threatened his lovely wife after she laughed at him upon seeing his current appearances in the WWE. I mean what does Federline think he is doing? Granted the majority of the WWEs major fan base is Federlines target audience hes trying to feud with the WWEs Champion and second (or third if you still count Hogan) biggest star. Federline even challenged John Cena to a match the night before his divorce. Yes, wrestling is staged and it is a questionable entertainment outlet but it has a huge cultural impact on America. This union between K-Fed and the WWE had no benefit to Federline whatsoever, but proves that Vince McMahon is a genius. With the publicity surrounding Federlines divorce, Britneys sudden appearance back in the spotlight and Federline basically acting like a jackass on one of Cable TVs highest rated programs, Vince McMahon is going to make so much money and get so much media attention by throwing Federline into the spotlight and without a doubt making a fool of him, not only using Cena, but the inevitable moment when K-Fed crosses the wildly popular DX. Is Big Dick Johnson in Federlines future?

Regardless of how funny this divorce proceeding is going to be, with an ironclad pre-nup and Federline going after Britneys money one thing is for sure, when K-Fed gets booed on WWE TV its not because that is his character, its because thats who he is and why his album is so far down the charts, even his target audience; the slackers, the white trash, think hes a jackass. Its safe to say hes not having the best week ever. Thats all thats on my mind for this first edition of Senseless Rambling on America But hey, its a start.
