Course Description

In this introductory course, students will learn to use Spanish in the basic transactions of daily living. This will be accomplished through study, drill, and practice of vocabulary and the basic grammatical structure of the language. Students will also be made aware of basic differences in lifestyles of Hispanic and American cultures.

Organization of Instruction

This class will be taught using a variety of methods including lecture, discussion by the class and teacher, demonstrations, drills, group work, classwork, homework, educational games, tapes, and songs.

Course Requirements

1. Attendance- District and state policies toward attendance will be enforced.

2. Materials must be brought to class.

3. All students are required to have a notebook that can be divided into three sections and must have pockets. Alternatively, the student may have a three-subject spiral notebook and a folder with pockets. Students also will be required to bring paper, pencil, and Spanish book to class each day.

4. Students must have all tests signed and turned in. This will count as a homework grade and failure to do so will be recorded as a zero.

Grading System

1. Nine weeks grades will be calculated as follows:

Tests ---------------------------------------- 35%

Notebook --------------------------------------- 5%

Quizzes-------------------------------------------------------------- 30%

Homework, classwork, projects, participation ---------------- 30%

2. Semester and yearly grades will be calculated according to district policy.
