| I believe that Jesus Christ came back a second time just as he prophesied that he would. This occurred in A.D. 70. He is not coming back again. We will look at some of the proofs for this. First, however, let me set forth three essential presuppositions regarding the Bible. This argument assumes that you are a Christian, and that you are in agreement with these principles. 1. The Absolute Authority of the Bible. The Bible is Gods word and is not subject to any question regarding its authority, authenticity, or veracity. It is the ultimate authority on any topic it addresses. 2. Since Jesus is the Son of God Everything He Said Must Be True If one thing that Jesus said was incorrect or if one thing that he prophesied did not come to pass then everything he said is suspect and he is cannot be the Son of God. Therefore to be Christians we must accept everything he says as absolute truth. If he was wrong about any of the verses refer to the Second Coming then he might also be wrong about John 3:16. 3. Sometimes The Bible Uses Symbolic Language, Sometimes it Uses Language That is Straightforward. The Bible is not written entirely in symbolic language nor is it written entirely without. It uses both. That said lets get down to analyzing some Bible verses. Well start with Mathew 16:28 before I note the verse lets set some presuppositions. One, Christs apostles are all dead. They were mortal like the rest of us and they were born 2,000 years ago or more. Despite that fact that I have never seen their bodies or visited their graves I do feel safe in saying that they are all dead. Two, no one reading this was standing around when Jesus uttered the words in the gospels. We werent born until almost 2,000 years later. If you believe differently on either of these two statements Id certainly like to hear about it. Matthew 16:24-28 Jesus said to his disciples I tell the you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste of death until they see the son of man coming in his kingdom.* Since Christs disciples are dead and he was addressing them we must conclude that the events of which he is speaking (The son of man coming in his kingdom.) have already happened. Even if he was not speaking to his disciples anyone else who was around then has certainly already tasted of death. Before we move on let me dispel with one other alternative that might be brought up the theory that perhaps he was talking about his death and resurrection and kingdom that he set up in heaven after his resurrection. Jesus said to his disciples some of youwill not taste of death none of his disciples died between the time he said this to them and the time of his death and resurrection except for Judas, and it is doubtful that in saying some of you he meant all excepting Judas. Lets move on to another Bible verse also in Matthew, Mathew 24:34. Jesus is talking about the end of the age (feel free to look up the context if you wish) and he says, I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.* In the Bible a generation represented forty years. As youre probably aware more than forty years have passed since Christ said these things, so either what he said was not true, (and here I must refer you to the second presupposition at the beginning of my paper) or the thing he was speaking of, the end of the age, has already occurred. |
