She
has 26 grandchildren, and four great,
it's a wonder, you know, she's in such good shape.
She gave birth to twelve, and what thanks she got back?
They think so much of her, they tried to give her a heart attack.
She tried so hard, you know, to make supper plans
but we all turned her down, it was all the girls scam.
It wasn't suppose to be much, just a little family supper
But you know the Adams', they won't settle for anything other
THAN
an excuse to eat, or so I've been told,
I can't say for sure cause I'm not all that old.
So... what do you think? about your surprise..
if the crowd is good for nothing else, they're certainly good for
lies.
You'll have to admit, they're not a bad bunch
They'd make up ANY excuse to go out to lunch.
Yes they love to eat, that's a given fact,
and a shortage of food is something they don't lack.
They have done a good job with the plans they have made
but I think this is the best, as good as it gets
we're all here to wish you
"The Best 70th Yet.."

I'm sure EVERY mother can relate to this little Prayer....
(especially if she had 12 of us running around)
Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray thee Lord my sanity to keep.
For if some peace I do not find,
I'm pretty sure I'll lose my mind.
![]()
I pray I find a little quiet
Far from the daily family riot.
May I lie back--not have to think
about what they're stuffing down the sink,
or who they're with, or where they're at
and what they're doing to the cat.
I pray for time all to myself
(did something just fall off a shelf?)
To cuddle in my nice, soft bed
(Oh no, another goldfish--dead!)
Some silent moments for goodness sake
(Did I just hear a window break?)
And that I need not cook or clean--
(well heck, I've got the right to dream)
Yes now I lay me down to sleep,
pray my wits about me keep,
But as I I look around I know--
I must have lost them long ago!

When my 3 boys were small and even through their teenage years, many days I thought I was at my wits end. The thing that got me through my toughest days was thinking of my mom and what sacrifices she made for us 12 kids....what she must have given up to make sure we were healthy and happy is more than we could ever imagine in this day of modern appliances, transportation and communications. I often wonder where she found enough hours in a day to do all she had to do. From changing diapers, milking cows, baking bread (every day, I might add), scrubbing floors.....washing clothes (in a wringer washer, every day), picking berries, and to top it all off, the weekends we were off to the cabin on the lake.....But what you have to keep in mind are the changes in how we do these things today compared to how our mom's did them ...When I think of these things I can sit back and smile and think how good life has been to me......and thank God for helping our mom when we were kids.....

The World's Greatest
Mother
![]()
Thanks for my childhood
and all your tender care
I see your smiling face
whether rainy days or fair
How fortunate for me, Mom
God blessed me from above
with the greatest Mother in the world
for you filled my life with love....

The Young Mother The young mother set her foot on the path of life. "Is this the long way?" she asked. And her guide said: "Yes, and the way is hard. And you will be old before you reach the end of it. But the end will be better than the beginning." But the young mother was happy, and she would not believe that anything could be better than these years. So she played with her children, and gathered flowers for them along the way, and bathed them in the clear streams; and the sun shone on them, and the young mother cried, "Nothing will ever be lovelier than this." Then the night came, and the storm, and the path was dark, and the children shook with fear and cold, and the mother drew them close and covered them with her mantle, and the children said, "Mother, we are not afraid, for you are near, and no harm can come." And the morning came, and there was a hill ahead, and the children climbed and grew weary, and the mother was weary, But at all times she said to the children, "A little patience and we are there." So the children climbed, and when they reached the top they said, "Mother, we would not have done it without you." And the mother, when she lay down at night looked up at the stars and said, "This is a better day than the last, for my children have learned fortitude in the face of hardness. Yesterday I gave them courage. Today I have given them strength." And the next day came strange clouds which darkened the earth clouds of war and hate and evil, and the children groped and stumbled, and the mother said: "Look up. Lift your eyes to the light." And the children looked and saw above the clouds an everlasting glory, and it guided them beyond the darkness. And that night the mother said," This is the best day of all, for I have shown my children God." And the days went on, and the weeks and the months and the years, and the mother grew old, and she was little and bent. But her children were tall and strong, and walked with courage. And when the way was rough, they lifted her, for she was as light as a feather; and at last they came to a hill, and beyond they could see a shining road and golden gates flung wide. And mother said: "I have reached the end of my journey. And now I know the end is better than the beginning, for my children can walk alone, and their children after them." And the children said," You will always walk with us, Mother, even when you have gone through the gates." And they stood and watched her as she went on alone, and the gates closed after her. And they said: "We cannot see her, but she is with us still. A Mother like ours is more than a memory. She is a living presence." - source unknown - This story was sent to me by a friend I met on ICQ Thank-you RedAngel |
