Family Kouji's Family Kouji has the most complicated family history in all of Digimon Seasons. This is how it goes: ![]() Mr. Minamoto Kousei and Ms. Kimura Tomoko marry and give birth to twins, Kouichi and Kouji. For an unknown reason, Kousei and Tomoko split up. Kousei takes custody of Kouji and Tomoko takes custody of Kouichi. Tomoko leaves and lives with her mother. As Kouji grew up thinking he was an only child, he never knew anything about a twin. Mr. Minamoto somehow convinced Kouji that his real mother passed away a long time ago and for some reason, did not tell him he had a brother. During this period, Mr. Minamoto married another woman, Satomi. Kouji never knew of his real biological mother and kept a framed picture of her on his desk, which he gazed at frequently. Kouji still grieved of his "dead" mother but Kousei really wanted Kouji to accept his stepmother. Kouji was reluctant to do so but it did not seem like he meant any harm by his reactions, though Satomi was hurt by his cold response. As for Kouichi, he didn't know about Kouji until his grandmother told him about Kouji on her deathbed, then passed on. After hearing the news about a twin brother, Kouichi went on looking for him in Jiyuugaoka and found him in Shibuya train station. He also was unknowingly a chosen child coming to the Digital World, but mainly, his goal was to manage to get a hold of Kouji. As Kouichi followed him in the train station, he ran after him but just missed him at the elevator. He scampered to the stairs, running very fast, tripped, and fell two flights of stairs. His last words were "Kouji..." and passed out. It was unknown how he got to the Digital World, but Cherubimon took his spirit and left his physical body in the human world. Because Cherubimon recognized him as the rightful owner of the spirit of Darkness, he used Kouichi to his advantage and transformed him into the infected spirits of Darkness, brainwashing Kouichi's memories in the process. After that, Kouichi as Duskmon was unable to process anything good from Kouji and only focused on how Kouji's family made his and his mother's life difficult. Around Episode 27, Kouji realized the person inside of Duskmon was someone who looked exactly like him. He was eager to find out who exactly this strange but familiar digimon was. After long battles and a lot of persuasion from Takuya, Beowulfmon and Adharmon defeated Duskmon, Beowulfmon scanning Kouichi's infected spirits. Kouichi was finally free of Cherubimon. Kouji later released the true forms of Darkness, Lowemon and KaiserLeomon. During fights there were a lot of flashbacks between them, such as Kouichi spying on Kouji's "content" family life, while he and his mother worked so hard to maintain a living. As the series progressed, Kouji and Kouichi wanted to know more about each other and their families and grew a brotherly bond. While fighting the paladin digimon, Kouichi noticed something very different about himself. He was always unharmed when everyone else was knocked out cold. Since Kouichi didn't know exactly where his real body was or whether or not he was really dead, he asked Kouji to promise to meet his mother when he returned to the real world. Kouji fulfilled this promise in the end. The story of the twins' family at this point is unknown, but as what can be implied in the ending, it seems to be just the beginning of a broken family coming back together. Izumi's Friends ![]() Not much is known about Izumi's family. She mentioned her mother once before in Episode 9, saying she missed her (in the Japanese version). The only things revealed in the series is that she was born in Japan but her family moved to Italy when she was young and recently transferred back to Japan. There is a lot more shown in her social life and her issues with other girls. Most of her problems arise from her cultural barrier and somewhat, her attitude. During episode 8, she made friends with two girls. The 3 were in a store browsing at key chains and had a disagreement about which one to purchase. One girl pointed out that she should get a certain key chain but Izumi indifferently but calmly said she liked another one. This resulted in Izumi being called a snob (dub version). Another one of Izumi's flashbacks (in the same episode) was remembering one of her classmates at school asking her to accompany her to the restroom. At the time, Izumi was reading a book she was probably interested in. Izumi declined and asked if she could go by herself. The girl, in response, felt Izumi was unkind. In Episode 26, Izumi's cultural barrier issues are displayed in-depth. Izumi was on a school field trip (or camping trip). While the class is hiking, Izumi strolled on her own. There is one girl who injured herself and Izumi stopped to help her, putting a band-aid over her wound. The two seemingly got along well until they had to set up camp. The camper girl heard gossip and snickering from other fellow female classmates and decided not to hang around Izumi afterwards in fear of her own reputation. The other campers resumed talking about Izumi as she was left by herself. From these experiences, Izumi is gravely hurt but learns that her attitude may rub off as different impressions oto others, especially on the fact that she lived in a foreign country for quite some time. Although it hurts her and she has no desire to change herself, Izumi adjusts her attitude a bit and finally makes a few friends in school by displaying her cooking abilities and sharing it in class. | ||||||
