| Dana Scully is a medical doctor with an undergraduate degree in physics from the University of Maryland. As a child, Dana Scully has been transferred from one navy base to another due to her fathers duty. She spent the first year of her undergraduate school at the University of California in Berkeley, near the Alameda Naval Air Station where her father was stationed. Scully has been involved in political activism, particularly anti-nuclear protests groups, though these involvement never went further than reading leaflets and engaging in occasional spirited | 'discussions' with her father. Her father died early in1994; they were apparently close at one time (she called him Ahab; he called her Starbuck, referring to the two main characters of the classic, Moby Dick) After a year at Berkley she transferred to the University of Maryland.Her family disapproved of her joining the Bureau. She had a yearlong relationship with an instructor at the Academy, Jack Willis, with whom she shared the same birthday (Feb. 23). Jack Willis later died in the line of duty while investigating a case with Scully and Mulder. | Raised as a Catholic, she has at times, been torn between faith(religion) and science although in most of the cases she and Mulder investigate, Scully has not witnessed any overt paranormal activities, but she has had brushes with unexplainable phenomena that may have her start questioning her beliefs. Scully always wears a small cross around her neck, which was given to her by her mother on her 15th birthday, not much as a symbol of her faith in her religion but more of a source of power and inspiration. |
