| Fellow-Citizens, I have come here today to explain my plans for the future of the United States of America. This country is as important to me as much it is to all of you. If it was not I would not be running for the most honorable and responsible office on the earth. I want to make this country larger and greater than it already is. We will rise above the rest and shall never fail. We will be united under one name "The citizens of the United States of America." We will bear this name proudly not falsely. If I am elected I have some important domestic policies I will not only resolve but improve. I will build on what I have already done and we shall begin to see the great country everyone has imagined (http://gi.grolier.com/presidents/ea/bios/11ppolk.html) Now, before I begin, discussing our domestic policies, I would be highly appreciative if I may have a short moment of silence for the 13,000 deaths we have suffered in the gruesome war with Mexico. Thank you and g-d bless. First, I will continue to enforce the Walker Tariff. This tariff has not only helped the U.S. gain money but has also helped businesses flourish. The tariff puts import duties on a revenue basis. The tariff has not ruined manufactures as many experts predicted. It has done the complete reverse and helped them. I hope this trend continues while our economy thrives. Next, I want to go over the subject of our treasury. Since the Independent Treasury Act of 1846 the U.S. has a very large surplus of money. The act stresses that the government gets the money it deserves. It does this by setting up independent treasury deposit offices separate form private or state banks to receive all government funds. I hope to increase the number of these deposit offices. Therefore, the economy has even more room to grow. Finally, I would like to talk about the rights of the minority groups in America. My close friend David Wilmot introduced a new amendment which I believe is very important to the well being of America. The amendment talks about how slavery shall not exist in the newly acquired land. I shall touch on the land subject later. The amendment has passed in the House but did not pass in the Senate. I will put pressure on the Senate to pass the amendment so we can have a more free country. Now if I shall, I would like to talk about the future of our foreign policies. (http://www.americanpresident.org/KoTrain/Courses/JP/JP_In_Brief.htm) Now, I'll discuss our foreign policies. First, I want everyone to know those 13,000 men didn't die for nothing. They helped acquire the new states of California and New Mexico. Now I wanted to keep the peace in Mexico by buying the land not fighting for it. So I did some research and found records of owed money from Mexico for damage claims. They didn't have the money so I asked them for the territory. They disagreed and war began. Then I got the word that "American soldiers had been killed on American soil." I couldn't stand the grief and signed a peace treaty with Mexico. They ended up giving us the land we wanted and we gave them 15,000,000 dollars. The fighting did not solve anything and I still grieve for the lost soldiers. Now, on a softer side. We have come to a compromise with New Granada. They have granted us way of the isthmus which will make it easier to transport goods. As we make new goods which t?,(he world has never seen before we want to share them and this route will help us show everyone these products. In return though we have promised neutrality of the isthmus and the sovereignty of New Granada. Back to another land issue. As you may very well know we have declared Texas the 15th state. This had a good side and a bad side. To become a state is only needed a simple majority vote in both houses. The bad side is that Mexico thought the border was too long and has cut off all diplomatic relations with us. I hope to restore the relations if I am elected president. Mexico may not seem important now but with their new furnished economy they could be a factor in the future. Now I hope you northeasters are pleased that I have also acquired the sole title of Oregon. We compromised peacefully with Great Britain that we shall settle below the Columbia river. I hope that I can expand our country even more if I am elected. (http://www.americanpresident.org/KoTrain/Courses/JP/JP_In_Brief.htm) Finally I want to talk about my plan for the future. My plan is to strongly unite southerners and northerners. I feel they are slowly moving apart and because of the racial issue of slavery. I fear that someday we may have civil war. Americans fighting Americans, what a horrid thought. For my four years in office they have expressed hatred for each other in unexplainable ways. Some bills don't even get passed due to discrimination. Please America, be united. I hope everyone agrees with me on this subject, and if though shall not then I hope I can convince you to agree. America, please listen. We must have a new face, a brighter one. One that shines through the dark times and glimmers in the sunshine. We must be strong and united. We must carry each other through the tough times and prance in the great times. We will grow and prosper together (pause) as one. Thank you and g-d Bless America. |
