A Tribute to Zul - The Most Determined Mountain Biker I've Known!
I only knew his name was Zul. I didn't bother to ask him what his full name was, let alone his 'bin'! I met him a few weeks ago at at the Chinese temple, at the foot of Mt. Erskine when I was waiting for other riders for the ride up the trail.
I did not ask him what his job was, all I cared was, he is a Mountain Biker!
I did ask him for his hand phone number, when he said he didn't have one, that was it!
I only asked about his bike! It was a wheeler and he said it was a second hand bike, purchased for about RM700.00 from a guy called Tajuddin. I don't know who Tajuddin is.
I only knew that he lives at Telok Air Tawar, on the mainland, pass the RAAF (Royal Australian Airforce Base) in Seberang Perai Utara, quite close to Penaga. Don't ask me how far, it is far!
He rode well at Mt. Erskine. The next ride was at Sedim, offered him to join us. He stated he did not own a car. He had to hitch a ride with Annuar. He cycled all the way to the first BKE Toll, just to catch Annuar's lift to Sedim.
He rode all the way to Gertak Sanggul to join us for the Gertak Sanggul -Pulau Betong ride.
He rode all the way again, to Sunrise Tower, to join us for the Fellowship ride.
For each and every ride, just to join us, he had to ride up, and then endure the ride home, alone.
It was during the Fellowship ride, I noticed that he did not have or carry a water bottle. I don't know why!
But one thing for sure, my friend Zul, to me, you are the most determined Mountain Biker I have ever met! I salute you!!!!!
