Kotorigaro- Writings- Rain Room

Random prose: Rain Room

The rain was drumming steadily on the streaked window panes, and a grey haze hung heavy outside. Moonlight swam through the mist, highlighting the high cheekbones and long nose of the young man leaning against the window, staring at the blurred lights outside.
His hair was straight and ebony black, kept tied back by a thick navy band in a low ponytail that hung down to the bottom of his ribcage. However any feminine resemblance was lost when you looked at his face; the stubborn jaw line, thin lips and severe look in his almond-shaped eyes normally caused people to forget about his hair.
In comparison to his impressive features, the clothes he wore were simple- a padded navy jacket over a plain white shirt, dark blue jeans and white trainers. The overall impression was that of a no-nonsense, frosty man in his early 20’s.

The man blinked, and his icy blue eyes travelled around the vast room in which he stood. At the far end of the room muted light poured in from the three glass walls, casting strange patterns over the polished black surface of a grand piano and sliding down it’s sides to the varnished wood floor, before it crept across the thick white rug in the middle of the room and reached up the sides of a coffee table, flanked on all sides by large black leather couches.

The young man’s eyes paused on the mobile phone that lay silent upon the papers scattered across the tabletop, and then returned to the orange blurs beyond the curtain of rain, where a highway snaked past below. The sounds of cars and hooting echoed thinly about the room, barely discernable beneath the pounding of the rain.

The night slid on and the young man still stood in watchful silence at the window, as the shadows cast by the raindrops on the pane slid across his marble features and the moonlight painted the angular lines of his body with silver. A siren wailed in the distance, and his eyes narrowed as he glimpsed the flashing lights speeding past below.
“Never ceases” he murmured.
Although he spoke softly his voice reverberated around the room; it made you think of the sound a cello made when bowed by a master. A rich, surprisingly warm sound for a man thought of by many as a kind of ice prince...
