Kotorigaro- Writings- Deathly Mountains

Random prose: Deathly Mountains

Here, the clouds lay in ripped tatters about the steely rock, and the sun scattered pinpoints of dazzling light upon the freshly fallen snow. Gleaming silver peaks stretched far into the distance as if the spine of the earth had been torn from its back, exposing the broken bone to the cold howling wind.
At this moment the wind had fallen silent, but its chill still hung in the thin air, biting into the thick fur of the creature that lay worn under an outcrop of rock. It twitched feebly, its tongue sticking to the ice beneath it as it panted, its eyes listless.
Had it been standing it would have towered over any dog that ran wild in the big human cities far away, outran any of the proud stags that lived in the distant forests and struck terror into the hearts of even the boldest men as they travelled through the wilderness.

But what it had been and had done, no longer mattered now. The breeze blew stronger, tearing into its dark grey fur as its fierce amber eyes grew mild. As the wind twisted up the mountainside, its pained struggles to breathe ceased and its taunt body finally relaxed, sinking into the snow as the wind howled across the silent peaks.
