Oliver grew up near Edinburgh, Scotland, with his parents and four sisters on a small farm on the outskirts of the city. Oliver had a stable, happy childhood which taught him all of his morals and beliefs, along with the tough lessons of life. When Oliver was sixteen, a fire broke out in the main barn. The family fought the fire, but to no avail. Oliver, the eldest of the Gren children, pulled two of his sisters out of the fire, but when he ran back into the barn he found the bodies of his mother and other sisters huddled together, dead. His father was in the rear of the barn, trying to help the animals. Oliver tried helping him, but was crushed underneath a broken beam. While struggling underneath the beam, Oliver witnessed his father's death when the man was crushed underneath the weight of a broken wall and the tools upon it. Oliver and his two sisters were the sole survivors of the tragedy, but mere months later both of his sisters passed away due to injuries and heartbreak. After this, Oliver was placed in a mental ward. He was extremely unstable and did not speak for at least two years. He was classified as psychotic. Oliver was almost constantly medicated to keep him from harming himself or others. When he was eighteen, Oliver met Boris. The Russian was helping to translate for someone, when the two happened to meet. Though it is unclear how or why, Boris became friends with Oliver and got the boy to talk again. Weeks
