He first contacted me through my own website about Vietnamese adoptees and sent a rather enthusiastic and encouraging email. It's funny how friendship grows out of the blue. I can't understand how it all started but Frederick and I started to exchange emails and to chat on-line. We both share the same background as we were born in Vietnam and adopted abroad. If our first conversation topic was of course our common origins we soon talked about something else. Our conversations are a strange mixture of philosophy, computing skills and teasing each other. I don't know what you, his friends who can see him for real, think about Frederick, but the one with whom I'm chatting is just great. We are different and even totally opposite in some way, but our common points are strong bonds. Though we had never seen each other, except through our webcams, and maybe thanks to that distance, we've shared really private ideas.
I once compared him once to a famous French poet who was famous for his search for adventure. This is how I would best describe Frederick : a wandering soul in search of a harbour, not knowing which way to go. He's much more like a world citizen ready to pack off and to follow the winds. I think he's about to explore every spot of this small planet. I just hope that he'll include that remote spot of France where I live on his journey.
