Hank, Bill and Dale are infuriated when Boomhauer invites Didi to stand with them in the alley, and become determined to take a stand. But Hank, realising that for the first time in months Didi is happy, tries to stop the plan from going ahead. Meanwhile, Luanne is overjoyed when she is promoted to assistant manager at the salon.

Meanwhile, Luanne adjusts to her new job as assistant manager, but has trouble with all the work that is involved.

Hank immediately dislikes the thought of having children around the business, and his worries become a reality when some meddlesome twins inadvertently wander into a life-threatening situation involving propane. Bobby, with a reluctant Hank, must now save the day.

After Bobby and Hank get into an argument, Bobby is so furious that he quits his job at Hill & Son and decides to work for Thatherton Fuels again. Hank is now faced with changing the father/son image of Hill & Son, but, unable to run the business without Bobby, he shuts it down and puts the building up for sale. Bobby is overcome with guilt afterwards, and must make a difficult decision after such a large argument.

Bobby and Connie announce their engagement to everyone at Hill & Son, and are offered congratulations. But when Connie discovers the methods Bobby uses to sell propane to woman – flirting – she worries that the employees think he is cheating on her. Meanwhile, Luanne enlists the help of Hank for tips on her new job as assistant manager, but he ends up completely taking over, driving an outraged Luanne to fire him.

Didi finds herself falling for Patch’s charm, but manages to scare him away after revealing that she has a kid. Meanwhile, Bobby and Connie prepare to move in with each other, but after his previous attempt at a committed relationship, Bobby begins to have second doubts over the change.

Bobby and Connie have moved in together but are horrified to learn that Kahn will be their new landlord. Connie is determined more than ever to get some privacy, and ends up going on a protest with the other residents annoyed by Kahn’s behaviour in an attempt to get him fired. Hank happily joins in but ends up getting into an argument with Peggy, who has taken pity on Kahn and is helping him to be liked.

Sales at Hill & Son are falling dramatically due to Bobby’s booming relationship with Connie and Hank is slowly becoming concerned, ultimately enlisting the help of Peggy to get Bobby back to his old self, before he dated Connie. But Bobby gets the wrong idea, thinking that his parents can’t accept their relationship, and, in an outraged state of mind, he quits his job at Hill & Son and gets one working for Kahn’s company.

Meanwhile, Luanne cooks her first Thanksgiving dinner, but Peggy intrudes.

Hank and Bobby decide to go to the annual propane convention in Dallas, and are vexed to encounter a man named Phil, who bears a strange resemblance to Buck Strickland. Meanwhile, back at home, Luanne tries to deal with an unruly child whose been left at the salon.

Hank is furious when he discovers that a group of rowdy teenagers have spray-painted Cotton’s gravestone with offensive messages, and, with the help of Didi, he becomes determined to protect the Arlen cemetery. Meanwhile, Luanne enlists the help of Peggy to deal with a chauvinistic man who won’t stop flirting with her at the salon.

Peggy is furious when both Hank and Bobby ditch the Christmas celebrations in order to make what could be their biggest propane deal yet. Peggy tries to coax them into coming back, offering extra turkey and cold beer on demand. But when Bobby shows up, he reveals that he is spending the holidays with Connie instead, infuriating Peggy and driving her to hold him “hostage”, making Hank concerned about her.

Peggy decides to enter a cook-off sponsored by Mega Lo Propane and Propane Accessories, but when she chooses not to use propane, Hank enlists the help of Bobby to convince change her mind. But Peggy is so infuriated that Hank can’t accept her decision that she throws out all of the propane supply in the house and announces to everyone that the Hills are no longer a propane family, much to Hank’s anger.

Business at Hill & Son is slower than ever, so Hank temporarily hires experienced spokesperson Luanne for tips. Luanne starts offering free haircuts for customers, and, to Hank’s surprise, her ploy works. But when Luanne is forced to go back to the salon, Hank tries to find another hairdresser. However, Hank can’t find one with a personality as friendly as Luanne’s, or one that is as compatible with the customers.

Meanwhile, Hank and Peggy inadvertently exchange glasses and are stuck with it all day.
