Hank Hill’s methods of selling propane and propane accessories are outdated, so Bobby tries to help him modernize the business. Hank is so thrilled at the success of Bobby’s changes, he invites him to become his partner and they re-name the business “Hill & Son Propane”. However, their success is short-lived when Hank discovers the lies and promises Bobby has been making to sell the propane, forcing him to deal with many outraged customers. Bobby worries that he has blown his chances of working with Hank, and, out of desperation, he gets a job at Thatherton Fuels, only to develop a crush on an employee named Joan. After dealing with the customers, Hill & Son has lost several thousand dollars and is out of business. When Hank discovers who Bobby is working for, he is determined more than ever to get the company back on its feet.
“Luanne’s Little Secret”

Luanne is shocked when she learns of the relationship between Bobby and Joan Thatherton and is conflicted when Hank confronts her about Bobby’s recent mysterious behaviour. Bobby begs Luanne not to tell, and she reluctantly agrees, claiming she feels somewhat special being the only one who knows. But when Luanne is forced to resort to ludicrous lies and cover-ups, she threatens to tell Hank the truth, unless Bobby finds her a boyfriend. After hours of searching, Bobby meets Buckley’s estranged (and single) brother, George, whom immediately hits it off with Luanne. Joan then confronts Bobby, explaining that she wants to announce their relationship to everyone as quickly as possible. Meanwhile, Hank is stuck dealing with several annoying customers at Hill & Son, whom Bobby usually manages to get rid of by performing prop comedy acts.
“The Inspector: Judgement Day”

Discovering that an inspection is due, Hank and Bobby become determined to get the business up to standards in order to pass, unaware that the inspector is Stanley Thatherton, brother of long-time business rival MF Thatherton. After a thorough check-up, the business is ready for the inspection, but Hank is horrified to discover that Bobby is romantically involved with Joan, who is actually MF’s seventeen-year old daughter. Things go from bad to worse when Stanley arrives and catches Bobby and Joan in the throes of passion, and angrily shuts the business down. Hank realises that to pass the inspection he will need to fire Bobby and must make a difficult decision regarding his career. But when Stanley turns out to be an impostor, Hank exposes the truth to the board of inspectors and the business reopens, allowing Bobby to continue seeing Joan.
“Boy, George!”

As Luanne’s thirtieth birthday approaches, she worries that George will break up with her, claiming she is “too old”. Peggy manages to calm her down, claiming that no man would be so insensitive, however, she is proven wrong and by the following evening, Luanne is single once again. Bobby decides to help Luanne get revenge on George, but they end up inadvertently causing a minor propane explosion at Hill & Son, making Hank furious. Bobby and Luanne are then forced to find the fastest, cheapest renovators in order to return the destroyed room back to its original state, but problems ensue when George turns out to be one of the workers. Bobby begins to worry that Luanne will fall for George all over again and desperately tries to stop this from happening. Peggy, meanwhile, confronts George’s parents about his insensitive behaviour.
“Propane Peggy”

Business is going downhill at Hill & Son, so Hank and Bobby decide that they need a spokesperson to attract more customers. After several unsuccessful interviews, Hank is horrified when Peggy shows up, revealing that, as 16-year old, she was a spokesperson, ultimately giving the Mega Lo Mart its one-millionth customer. Hank is quick to hire her, but Bobby is uncomfortable with having his mother around all the time like when he was a kid. Noticing Bobby’s odd behaviour, Hank changes his shift to avoid any further problems, but Peggy, mistakenly thinking that Bobby doesn’t like her anymore, changes his shift back in an attempt to get to the root of the issue. Finally, Hank decides to fire Peggy, and she grudgingly accepts, learning of the real issue. A week later, Bobby has hired a new spokesperson, and much to Hank’s dismay, it turns out to be Luanne.
“Bobby Hill’s Flying Circus” (Part One)

Hank and Bobby are thrilled when they make their first propane contract with a travelling circus and are invited to the first show as thanks. Bobby, discovering the thrills of the circus, considers quitting his job in the father/son business and becoming a travelling prop comedian. Hank is, of course, outraged, and desperately tries to get Bobby to reconsider. Bobby reluctantly accepts, but after talking to a depressing clown, Bobby decides that Hank should not stand in his way and gives him his two weeks notice. Hank is inevitably upset, but covers up his emotion by going on several fishing trips and needlessly fixing his car. After talking to Peggy, Hank finally decides to talk to Bobby about his decision and drives to his apartment. There, Hank is horrified to discover that Bobby has already left for his first show in Wichita Falls. To be continued...
“The Taking of Bobby Hill” (Part Two)

Hank tries to catch up with Bobby, who is heading to Wichita Falls with the travelling circus in order to perform his first prop comedy act. Arriving at the circus grounds, Hank learns that Bobby is rehearsing in the changing rooms, but is forbidden to talk to him. With no other choice, Hank puts on a nearby costume and pretends he is in the show. Just before confronting Bobby, Hank is unwillingly pushed out onto the stage and becomes nervous with the entire audience watching him. After standing completely motionless for several minutes, the audience begin to get bored and start throwing food at him. Hank quickly rushes off the stage and finds Bobby, who reveals he has had some time to think and doesn’t want to be in the circus business after all, as he’d rather make his dad happy. Hank is overjoyed, and they return to Arlen together.
“Crude Awakening”

Luanne decides it is time she got over her failed relationship with George, and, on Peggy’s advice, she goes to on a speed dating evening. Luanne immediately hits it off with Rick, a charming 30-year old mechanic, and they agree to go on a proper date with each other. When the evening finally arrives, Luanne is horrified to discover that Rick is crude and loud just like her father, and fears he may have an alcohol problem. When Rick kisses Luanne, she is reminded of her dad and runs home, disgusted. Rick, fearing his chances with Luanne are over, enlists the help of Peggy to get her back. Bobby, meanwhile, finds himself under the tyranny of an old high-school bully, Stewart Dooley, whom Hank has recently hired at Hill & Son Propane. Bobby becomes determined to take revenge on Dooley, who made his life in high-school so very miserable.
“Dooley Noted”

Bobby is vexed to find that the new Hill & Son employee – Dooley – has developed a serious crack addiction and is scaring the customers away. Bobby tries to tell Hank, but Hank refuses to believe him, claiming that he has had a problem with Dooley ever since he was hired. Unable to get his message across, Bobby decides to take Dooley to re-hab in order to overcome his problem. There, Dooley finds himself falling for another drug-user, a beautiful woman named Clarissa, but he ends up conning her into giving him drugs. Learning about this, Bobby is outraged and refuses to help him any longer, burning Dooley’s contract with the business. After discovering what Bobby has done, Hank is furious, but when he witnesses Dooley’s behaviour after he stumbles into the building in a drugged-up state, Hank apologises to Bobby for not believing him before.
“The Hills Are Alive”

As spokesperson for Hill & Son, Luanne’s job is to attract more customers to the business and decides to round up some community bands to perform outside. The concert is a huge success, and several bootleg copies of the music are sold, further increasing business for Hank and Bobby. However, after the bands get a taste of success, everyone demands $5,000 as a final pay-off for their performance. Hank and Bobby must now find a way of paying them, but Hank worries that if they give into their demands, Hill & Son will go out of business. Faced with losing her job – and her uncle – Luanne takes to the streets in an attempt to raise money for the bands. Meanwhile, Peggy and Joan try to get to know each other. Joan confesses to Peggy that she is worried about all the time Bobby is spending with Luanne, unaware that they are actually cousins.
“Lady Pain-Killer”

After injuring her back in a car accident, Peggy is confined to a wheelchair and is unable to teach anymore at Tom Landry Middle School. After a week spent alone in the house, Peggy begins to feel as if she is no longer needed and gets a desk job at Hill & Son, despite the low pay. Bobby becomes concerned when he catches Peggy popping pills, and confronts her. Peggy breaks down and cries, explaining that she has become addicted to pain-killers. Peggy begs Bobby not to tell Hank, but he is uncomfortable with betraying his dad. Peggy finally decides to tell Hank, who has no choice but to fire her, claiming she is bad for business. Peggy enlists Bobby to help her overcome her pain-killer addiction, ultimately restoring her confidence. Meanwhile, Luanne faces competition from a tough spokesperson across the street working for Thatherton Fuels.
“Platter’s Platter”

After making a propane contract with a major company, Hank and Bobby decide to take the Hill & Son employees out to celebrate. However, a strict budget forces them to cutback on anything fancy, so they enlist the help of Peggy and Luanne to cook a delicious dinner. As preparations go underway, Peggy and Luanne begin to argue over what to make, ultimately deciding to split up and work on their own. Hank, worried about the result, tries to convince Peggy to re-consider her decision, but she is so outraged she throws away her propane supply and instead uses Thatherton Fuels. When the evening finally comes, employees of Hill & Son begin to think that Hank doesn’t have faith in propane like he used to and decide to take a stand. Meanwhile, Luanne wants nothing more than for the employees to enjoy the platter she has spent hours preparing.
“Movin’ on In”

Thatherton Fuels has unexpectantly gone out of business, forcing Joan to leave town with her father. Bobby desperately tries to muster up the courage to say those three little words that will stop her from leaving, but after many unsuccessful attempts he instead asks her to move in. Joan happily accepts, and they make their decision official by announcing the news to everyone at Hill & Son. But Bobby soon discovers that Joan intends to steal the Hill & Son business out from under him, and angrily breaks up with her. Bobby returns to his empty apartment, where he meets Connie Souphanousinphone. Connie explains that she has finally decided to move out of her parents’ house, and Bobby, overjoyed, asks her out on a date. Meanwhile, after being offered a job at a fancy beauty salon, Luanne quits her job at Hill & Son, worrying Hank about the business.
