| The diptychs by artist-writers in Drawing Conclusions II display dual facets of expression, divulging a more complete picture of each creators vision. In opposition to the standard way of relating text and image, with the artists statement or illustration, the non-linear correlations between writing and art here give viewers a poly-dimensional vista from which to draw their own conclusions. Toward the end of the Modern Era, strictly endorsing abstraction, mid-century American art criticism leveraged itself over contemporary art. A variety of artistic styles went largely unrecognized for at least a decade. The critical endeavors on view in this exhibition transcend the schism created between written ideas and artistic form. In addition to finding common ground between art and literature, this event merges the practice of art and art criticism that typically operate in juxtaposition to one another. An understanding of the ways in which image, frame, caption, and text routinely conspire together to present an inevitability about the objective world allows us to re-order and reconstruct the relationship between these components, and thereby to contribute to the creation of an infra-reflexive text which crosses over between the visual and verbal domains. -- Elizabeth Chaplain, Sociology and Visual Representation Artist-Writers participating (in process): Koan-Jeff Baysa, NY; Tova Beck-Friedman, NY; Matthew Bourbon, TX; Roger Boyce, NY; David Carbone, NY; David Colosi, NY; James Croak, NY; Sarah Crowner, NY; Carol Diehl, NY; Jan Estep, MN; Lily Faust, NY; Laurie Fendrich, NY; Sabine von Fischer, NY/Switzerland; Kyongho Ko, Korea; Suvan Geer, CA; Sabrina Gschwandtner, NY; Charles Giuliano, NY; Doug Harvey, CA; Mary Hrbacek, NY; Jens Kabisch, Germany; Jitish Kallat, India; Mary Jean Kenton, PA; Richard Klein, CT; Robert Knafo, NY; Joyce Korotkin, NY; Richard Kostelanetz, NY; Melissa Kuntz, NY; Claire Lieberman, IL; D.
