overview: the outer senshi go into hiding, chibiusa steals the show, and no one's dreams are safe!
villians: the deadmoon circus: queen nehelenia (neherenia, nephrinia, nephlinia, endless spellings. ARG!), zirconia, the amazon trio (fisheye, tigereye, hawkseye), and the amazoness quartet (junjun, palapala, vesves, and cerecere).
summary: one peaceful day in the summer, the girls are all watching a solar eclipse. a strange spaceship lands on the earth and becomes "the deadmoon circus". the senshi pay it no mind, but a pegasus named helios comes from no where to plea for help. he becomes very attached to chibiusa, but chibiusa doubts herself. she's sure that he's looking for usagi, not her; she has so little power, and usagi has immense power. he gives usagi and chibiusa the power to become supersailormoon and supersailorchibimoon, and gives chibiusa a bell. if she is in trouble, all she needs to do is ring the bell, and he'll come running to help her by giving supersailormoon a new attack, moon gorgeous meditation. chibiusa says "twinkle yell" to summon helios.
tuxedo kamen, for a change of pace, is STILL useless.
the amazon trio is an interesting bunch. they usually sit around in a bar, compare looks, and hit on people. tigereye and hawkseye pick out which girls to check, and fisheye goes after the men. small wonder, he falls in love with mr. useless himself, tuxedo kamen. tuxie never returns the feeling. (boohoo for fisheye...) the trio inspect the dream mirrors of all of the inner senshi.
the senshi are each granted an upgrade and a new attack. they all become SUPER sailors, and their fukus have minor detail changes. (jewels become stars, back bows get hyper long.) so they can womp the enemies to bloody bits again.
after the trio gets turned back into the circus animals they started as, the amazoness quartet comes into play. they are four girls (who in the manga are chibiusa's sailorteam, like the inners and outers are for moon... they become chibiusa's ASTEROID SENSHI.) they are a bit crazy, and juvinile. cute, though. they look in children's dream mirrors, and eventually find chibiusa's. boom, it's the one they want! they can now bring it back to nehelenia!
they misbehave a bit, and are semi-sealed into mirrors and lose their powers. but that's okay. all of the senshi fight bravely, but there's more after supersailormoon and supersailorchibimoon have used chibiusa's pure dream to blow up nehelenia. no, nehelenia didn't go boom, but she did get really old and mad ugly. and very, very irked. nehelenia decides to capture chibiusa. in one of the most horrifying and beautiful moments in sailormoon, nehelenia hurls chibiusa off of her floating place, and supersailormoon dives after her (we meet nehelenia again. this ending is not as sad as you think). for a while, they are just plummetting to the ground, without a hope. supersailormoon becomes princess serenity, and pleas with chibiusa, for her to wake up and believe in her moon power and finally, chibiusa awakens. she becomes princess serenity as well, and an absolute miracle happens. the two princesses float safely down to earth on downy white wings. (this entire scene is extraordinarily beautiful. the art is amazing, and a lot of care and emotion went in to it. yes, sailormoon super s didn't have ratings as high as the other four seasons, but gosh darnit, the ending is super. litterally.)
in the very end, chibiusa and helios say their good-byes. the amazoness quartet, escaped from their mirrors, divert the senshi's attention while chibiusa and her little fly-boy part ways. a very, very emotional ending.
but i know what you're all thinking: why do we have a season about chibiusa?! i HATE chibiusa! aaaaaarg!
i don't know why. it wasn't so much like that in the manga. the outer senshi are also in the super S manga. the anime, for reasons unknown to me, decided to change a WHOLE lot of stuff about the super S season. but i still liked it.
the midi you are listening to is rashiku ikimasho, the ending theme to the Super S season.
