overview: sailormoon meets the five inner senshi to defeat the evil queen beryl.
villians: the dark kingdom, which consists of queen beryl, her four generals jadeite, nephrite, zoicite, and kunzite (malachite in the dub.), and later, the evil prince endymion.
summary: the first season of sailormoon begins when usagi is 14 years old. she's having a normal day when all of a sudden a black kitty follows her home. the cat has bandages on its head, so usagi removes them. the kitty follows her home. later, in usagi's bedroom, the kitty introduces itself as luna, and tells usagi that she is sailormoon, a superhero that fights for love and justice. she gives usagi the transformation brooch, and usagi puts it on her school uniform, thinking it's very cute. luna instructs usagi to shout "moon prism power make up!" usagi follows luna's directions, and becomes sailormoon. she's a little freaked out by it, but soon she needs to user her powers. her first attack is "moon tiara action." for the first few battles, she's a real crybaby, and afraid of everything. her only savior is a mysterious maked man called tuxedo kamen. soon, a super-smart girl transfers to juuban junior high, mizuno ami. she is attacked by on of the dark kingdom's youma at a computer class. luna sees her strength and gives her the henshin wand for mercury. soon they are joined by sailormars. sailorjupiter joins the group next, after zoicite hurt the game-machine man, the boy makoto had fallen for. the dark kingdom is now after the seven rainbow crystals (which are eventually brought together to form the ginzuishou). usagi gets a new weapon, the crescent moon wand. the last to arrive is sailorvenus, who saves the senshi from zoicite, who is in the guise of sailormoon. jadeite is killed by queen beryl, nephrite is killed by zoicite, and zoicite is killed by queen beryl. he dies in the arms of his lover, kunzite. sailormoon kills kunzite. (note: in the manga, zoicite and kunzite have no romantic connections. all of the four generals are in love with the inner senshi. zoicite for mercury, jadeite for mars, nephlyte for jupiter, and kunzite for venus.)
the senshi learn of their pasts in the silver millenium on the moon, and how queen serenity sacrificed her own life to send the senshi to earth. (if you look really hard in the episode, you'll see sailorneptune floating to earth with the others. just thought it'd share.) mamoru is captured by queen beryl, and brainwashed to act against sailormoon.
in the end, the senshi travel to d-point in the north pole. there they encounter their toughest enemy yet, the doom and gloom girls. each senshi goes against them, eventually killing them. the victories come at a very high price... each of the senshi die until sailormoon is the only one left. she forces herself to come together after the spirits of her fallen comrades encourage her. with new strength, she runs queen beryl's hq. when she arrives, she faces off against evil prince endymion. he almost kills her, but she gives him a good moon tiara action to the gut. he is healed, but the fight isn't over yet. beryl talks to queen metallia, and recieves a boost of power. sailormoon now has to fight against queen beryl on her own. when she takes out the crescent wand (with the ginzuishou in place), the sailor team is ressurected. everyone lends their power to sailormoon, helping the ginzuishou overpower and finally destroy beryl.
in the very end, all of the senshi lose their memories, forget that they ever knew each other, and return to their normal, everyday lives.
