overview: tuxedo kamen goes bye-bye, the outer senshi return, three new, mysterious "senshi" appear, and really bad things happen to everyone. yippy!
villians: nehelenia, for a short period of time, and the animamates: sailorironmouse, sailoraluminumsiren, sailorleadcrow, and sailortinnyanko (tin cat), sailorgalaxia, and the most evil of evils, chaos! (who is, by the way, really REALLY bad. and i mean it. you'll see.)
summary: just when you think the dead moon saga is over, something re-awakens nehelenia. and boy, is she ticked. she captures mamoru, bacause EVERYONE loves mamoru, and does various bad things. the outer senshi are awakened again by baby hotaru, and are allowed to become supersailors. which is cool. supersailorsaturn and supersailorchibimoon try to kill nehelenia, and saturn ALMOST uses death reborn revolution. but chibimoon stops her. so eternalsailormoon does it. and, as i told you in the super S summary, nehelenia's end is not a sad one like in the last season. she is turned good, and she is brought back to her childhood, before she ever became evil. she won't get turned evil now because they've already killed what made her evil, so she is allowed to live a happy, painless life. yeehaw!

but what on earth made nehelenia re-awaken?

mamoru leaves for school in america, and usagi writes to him every day, and calls his answering machine just to hear his voice. tuxedo kamen, in my opinion, is MORE useful in this season than in any of the others. because he isn't there. at all. but three strange new idol stars and superheroes appear. the three lights, an immensly popular singing group, transfer to juuban high school. (ah, newsflash: minako now goes to school with usagi, ami, and makoto. rei still goes to private school. she really has no choice, being that her father is a successful politician. and, best of all, makoto gets to wear the same uniform as the other girls! at last, she is not excluded because of her height! and on top of that, chibiusa is gone! G-O-N-E gone! woohoo! this has the makings of a spectacular season, ne?) seiya, a dark haried hunkster, is really attracted to usagi. he becomes friends with her quickly. but this group, the three lights, is very popular. the inner senshi, besides sailormoon, are all fans and in the fanclub. they all compare numbers to see who got in the fan club first. all of their numbers are pretty bad, but when ami reveals that she is number 25 when all of the others are in the 5,000s, everyone is shocked. the other two members of the three lights, taiki and yaten, really don't like usagi. they think she's getting seiya hurt, but that's not really the case. seiya likes to protect usagi. taiki is very intellectual, and much like ami. yaten is very snobbish and snide, with an attitude like rei, only with very, VERY bad pms. yaten likes luna, though.
one day, and absolutely adorable little girl pops into the picture. her name is chibichibi. everyone thinks she looks like usagi, and might be her second daughter. setsuna confirms that this is not the case. no moon queen has ever bore more than one child. and no one ever had a chibi chibi. and no, she's not chibiusa's daughter either. (in the anime she turns out to be galaxia's star seed. in the manga, she is s condensed form of sailorcosmos, the future and ultimate form of sailormoon. it gets REALLY confusing. i'll have updates about this.)
the three lights are really the sailorstarlights, a group of three senshi from the planet kinmoku. they are searching for their princess, who is NOT sailormoon, but princess kakyuu. their home planet was destroyed by galaxia, so they all came to earth. they only need to find kakyuu, and then thaty can get revenge! but... soon after they find kakyuu, she gets killed. (eh, another anime/manga conflict: kakyuu gets killed in the manga by chi or phi. all i know is that kakyuu kill one of them, the other kills kayuu, and eternalsailormoon kills THAT one. i'm not sure which one is which. and then in the sera myu, there is another, so it's chi/phi/theta, not just chi and phi. add to the confusion a little more, shall we?)
so they have to avenge their planet and their princess.
now, here comes the fun part: mamoru never made it to school in america. he was stopped on the way by sailorgalaxia and had his star seed ripped out. so for all intents and purposes, he's kaputt. and kinda dead. with no hope.
galaxia wans't always bad. she was good. the very best. she was the most pure, most powerful, most super splendorific senshi there ever was. she sealed chaos inside herself so that chaos couldn't mess things up too badly, but chaos starts to control galaxia.
the final battle of stars is long and depressing. uranus and neptune switch sides and fight along side galaxia. they were really trying to take her down from the inside, but their plan backfired. it turned out that they couldn't kill galaxia by taking her starseed, it wasn't there to begin with! so she kills them. in a rather sad moment, neptune and uranus are fading away. neptune admits she's very scared, and asks uranus to touch her one last time. they touch hands, and fade away.
all of the outer senshi die. then the inner senshi die. sailormars takes a very long time to die. she encourages sailormoon, and if you remember the end of the first season, you know that sailormars is always the last to go. and she always takes a really long time trying to give sailormoon strength when things are bad. after the sailorstarlights die, eternalsailormoon is the only one left. and she tries to use a good old starlight honeymoon therapy kiss on galaxia, but... she kinda... misses? and galaxia reamins unharmed. at this point, sailormoon has lost everyone that she loves, her powers don't work, and galaxia is WINNING. but usagi will NOT let her friend's deaths be in vain. she becomes princess serenity and chibi chibi becomes a sword. serenity takes the sword and gets a really good blow in at galaxia. but that kinda doesn't work. and things are looking really, really bad at this point. and then... if things couldn't get any worse, chaos completely overtakes galaxia's body, and serenity tries to appeal to the good galaxia inside chaos. eventually, after losing her clothes and growing wings, she is able to get the good inside galaxia to force chaos out, destroying it.

and finally, after all of the pain, after everything, after all of the hardships and death and destruction, the sailorsenshi have won. the world can finally be at peace, and they will never have to fight again. destiny will unfold for them, brightly as anythihng ever could. the senshi are restored, mamoru is brought back, and life is peachy.

mamoru and usagi share a kiss underneath a beautiful full moon, and the show is over. completely. (the last episode, the ending credits are different from any of the other shows in the season. it end with a special sequence played out to the theme song, moonlight densetsu. the theme used for the last season was different, so it was only appropriate to end it the way it began. and i cried. i cried so hard i hurt. it was beautiful.)

and as they say in show biz: the rest was history. or fanfiction.
