Just what is Kobudo/Koryu Bujutsu?(page 4)
In this third series, Bokusen has elloquently depicted practice of kenjutsu
(swordsmanship), fukuroshinai/gekken (padded sword practice), kacchuu chakuhou
(armour donning), shuriken (blade throwing), yawara (anarmed defence) and
houjutsu (gunnery).
It is interesting to note that Bokusen's work
reflects several historical aspects of kobudo/koryu bujutsu characteristics are
seen:
- that the kobudo/koryu bujutsu are comprehensive arts,
- that the arts and applications of those arts were to an extent
socially-dependant (for example, the practice of naginata in Bokusen's Edo
period work is depicted as a woman's defence art, in comparison with Sengoku
Jidai depictions of the weapon being used in open warfare)
- that characteristics of combative behaviour, names of arts, and even the
arts themselves, differ according to period, social class and application.
