Sarah Marcel

I was introduced to Dungeons & Dragons at the tender age of 12 - and in a classroom, of all places. I had a teacher who loved the idea of reinforcing imagination, probability analysis, and socioeconomic history by playing games. My first character was a thief, and frankly I didn't know too much about what was going on, but I loved it. And boy, did my parents hear about how wonderful the game was, how much fun and how exciting (imagine listening to it coming from an overly melodramtic 12 year old). They broke down and bought me the D&D boxed set for Christmas, and for years have expressed wonder that a game which only involved dice, pencils, and paper managed to entertain all four of their children (14,13,11,11) for 4 1/2 hours on Christmas afternoon.

Unfortunately, I moved away from my gaming group, and spent five years away from the game. Then I met my future husband (that's Dan), and he reintroduced me to the fun of roleplaying games (no, not that kind of roleplaying- I'm talking about D&D, CoC, etc). Dan convinced Karl Allen that this chick he'd been seeing would be really impressed if she could sit in on a couple of gaming sessions, and couldn't he help a buddy out?

Soon thereafter, KORG was born. Karl (who had been attending Gen Con for years, and had already met Stacey) managed to convince both Dan and myself that we had to go. He was right, and we've been every year since 1992, except '99. I actually attended that first year with a guy named 'Aaron Wrasman'- ask Dan for the story if you see him.

As to my gaming style, I'm the big roleplayer in the group - not that the others aren't wonderful at it, 'cause they are. Just, they are pretty evenly divided with tactics/strategy and rp, and I'm way heavy on the rp side. As a result, I usually play, rather than GMing. I have run a couple of D&D one-shot adventures, and tried to get a massive (really too big and clumsy, but a great story) mixed World of Darkness campaign going. I really enjoy D&D, Call of Chthulu, Champions ('cause the world really needed a lesbian superhero), and WW's Vampire/WereWolf World of Darkness. (Editor's Note: Sarah's lesbian Champions character didn't start out that way. The rest of us just kept teasing her about certain aspects of her character's lifestyle until she gave in and came out of the closet).

And having rambled on for way too long, I hope to see you at the Con in August! I'll talk your ear off there, too, promise. :)
