Jonas although originally from Sweden, has been living
in Thailand for over 10 yearsspending three or four of those years in Nakorn
Ratchasima, more popularly known as Korat. In short, Jonas considers Thailand
his home.
Some may find it an enigma that Jonas has a preference
for singing the more traditional Luktoong songs rather than the popular music of
today. But really, its no enigma at allthe truth is that Jonas loves Thailand
with its fascinating and impressive culture.
The hospitality, respect for the elderly and kindness
of the Thai people are but a few of the traits that Jonas believes makes
Thailand the special country that it is.
When he was given the opportunity to make an album of
luktoong songs, he counted it an honor and privilege. Jonas appreciates the many
beautiful aspects of Thailand, and since luktoong is part of the Thai cultural
heritage, Jonas considered making a luktoong album a humble effort to help
highlight the beauty of the Thai way of life.
Prior to his career as a singer, Jonas was and
continues to be actively involved in volunteer work. He helps with programs and
projects at various institutions such as orphanages, hospitals, rehabilitation
centers, and community anti-narcotic programs. The medium of music is one avenue
that is frequently used in these many activities, so Jonas started to learn and
perform Thai songs.
This led to his learning his first Luktoong song.
Initially, he found it very challenging because of the intricate vocal
inflections of Luktoong. It took a lot of practice and determination to be able
to perform them. But Jonas persevered until now he has a repertoire of over 20
Luktoong songs, including many old-time favorites like such as Isarn Ban How,
Jai Ja Kart and Kon Suay Jai Dam. The first song he learned was Sanya Gonlah, a
famous song from the album Mon Ruck Luktoong.
Jonas has appeared on many television programs over
the past year. He also regularly performs before live audiences. His first
album, Pom Chu Jonas, was released on June 15, 2000.
