And anything else you think we need to know about your character...
LOGS:
There are 3 types of logs. Action, Personal, and Duty.
1) Action:
Action logs are basicly what your character does. These are most of the
time
written in the third person. An Exp. Of an Action Log is as follows:
<>
[Executive Commander Sothonsien tr'Brogan's Action Log] <-- Position &
Name
[Written By Me] <--- Who It Is Written By
[SD: 9612.13] <-- StarDate/ Written in the YYMM.DD format
(YearYearMonthMonth.DayDay)
<> <--
Where it
fits into the other logs
<>
tr'Brogan walked down the halls toward his quarters. He had some stuff
he
needed to get before he meet the SEAL's Team leader. Once in his room
Soth
pulled out the bottom drawer to his dresser. The only drawer that was
usable
was the bottom one. In fact there was only one real drawer. The rest
were
just decoys. Once Soth had removed the last drawer a box dropped from a
shaft
that went to the top of the dresser. The ExCmd dragged box into the
middle of
the room and popped the lid. From within he pulled out some objects that
had
been given to him for his assignment. Soth put about 1/4 of the objects
into
a bag that he would show to LtCmd Mandlikova. He didn't want to give
away all
his secrets. Picking up his bag Soth turned and headed for the door....
2) Personnel:
Personnel Logs are written more like a Journal entry. Here you are
most
likely to write in the first person. These logs explain your character's
personality and characterize them more. In these you can let out your
"feelings" toward other characters. But this must be IC only. If you
have
any disputes with other characters OOC wise talk it out with them
personally.
An Exp. Of a personal log is like follows:
<>
[Executive Commander Sothonsien tr'Brogan's Personnel Log]
[SD: 9611.11]
Computer
Record Personnel Log
Sothonsien tr'Brogan, SD 9611.11
::Deep Breath:: Today I had to meat with the SEALS team leader... A
half
Klingon. I could tell right away that we would not get along. Even if
my
blood wasn't green we would still clash. It is going to be tough.
On a lighter note, the ship has no Idea what I really am... Of course
that
won't matter if I don't survive this little battle we'll have with the
Borg...
ECT.
End Log
But remember when your writing Personnel Logs that they may be being
read by
fleet intelligence.
3)Duty:
Of all the logs Duty Logs are the most... Technical. In these logs
you
send out a report of briefing to the Commander Staff (This means that you
are
submitting a report to the CO&XO but send it out to the Crew) An Exp.
Of a
Duty Log is:
<<>>
Executive Commander Sothonsien tr'Brogan's Duty Log, SD: 9611.11
Computer,
Record Log and Send To Fleet Command
I have not had much time to get to meat the crew of the Defender. I
hope
all this will change as soon as we finish this battle we are to have with
the
Borg. I'm prepared to take command of the ship if the Captain becomes
unable
to for fill his duties... But I'm afraid that the ship isn't prepared to
be
under my Command. Some of the Staff still isn't adjusted to the Idea
that
they have a Romulan XO...
End Log
In logs you may want to use other people in it besides just yourself.
If
you do use another person in your log beside your self make sure you get
there
permission first. And another way to use other people in your logs is to
make
a "Joint Log". In these you and somebody else write the log together.
This
is a good way to not only develop IC relations but you get to know the
Simmers
OOC wise.
Mailing Labels:
When writing mail to the Iomega crew there is a few things you have to
add
the subject title. First of put UI or Iomega before everything. Second
tell
what type of mail it is.
OOC (Out Of Character), Log (A log), or NSR (Non Sim Related).
Exp:
UI OOC: My Comp Was In The Shop
or
UI LOG: Something Happens In This Log
or
UI NSR: Last Nights Episode of the "Simpsons"
Things To Do And Not To Do:
DOs:
- Read all Logs, Rosters and Announcements sent out to the crew.
- Try and check your EMail at least every other day.
- Write Logs (If you need ideas or are bored ask your Dept Head or CO for
something to do).
- Express your ideas (But don't put down others ideas while doing so).
- Interact with other players.
- If we have a problem and you have a solution speak up. But obey the
CoC.
- Feel free to make "Subplots" but make sure that they don't distract
from the
main plot.
- If ya don't know what's going on ask someone for help.
- If your a Dept Head give jobs to your Junior Officers. We don't want
people
to get bored and have nothing to do.
DON'Ts:
- Don't try and be the focus of everyone's attention.
- Don't try to fix everything right here and now. Take your time. Most
of
the time it takes months to complete one mission in an EMail Sim.
- Don't argue with people OOC. You may argue IC but try to settle OCC
matters
behind the scenes peacefully.
- Don't be at more then one place at a time. (I.E Don't be on the
bridge,
then Ten rearward, then Sick bay all in one minute)
- Don't be worried about promotions. Simming is for fun not seeing how
fast
you can shoot up the totem pole.
- Don't put words in other peoples mouths.
- Don't make fun of other people. What goes around comes around.... Or
something like that...
- Don't abuse the Mail String (I.E Don't send out Chain Letters or
anything
like that.)
PROMOTIONS & RANK:
Try not to worry about rank. Promotions will come in time. You should
just
have as much fun if your a CO or a Deck Swab. You mainly get promos by
attaining Log credits. Of course you have to work well with others, sim
well,
and be a team player as well.
1) Log Credits:
You achive Log Credits by submitting Logs (Action, Personal or Duty).
You
can only get 2 log credits per week but don't let that stop you from
writing
more. The limit is only there so people can't get 10 log credits a week
'cause they sent in ten logs that speed up the plot. A different amount
of
Log Credits are needed to achive different ranks.

* Not in use in the FKA Federation Ranks system or in the Star Trek
Universe.
NOTE: Not all ranks are the same for every FKA ship. The SF Marine Ranks
are
said to be different. The Translations I'm using have been gotten from
"[email protected]". He is the USS Iomega's Marine Team Leader. The
rank of
1st Lt isn't used in most SF Sims in the FKA.
3) Promotion Policy:
For those of you that must know what you've got to do to raise in rank
I've
included a list of what it will take for you to get promoted. Also the
Captain reserves the right to demote or remove from the sim ANYONE with
extremely low attendance and/or an "uncooperative attitude" or other
serious
problems. If you don't regularly write logs and do not answer any mail
about
your lack of participation, the Captain may cut you from the Iomega's
String &
Roster. The Commanding Officer also reserves the right to promote an
officer
as he wishes within reason. This ability is only to avoid conflicts and
arguments.
-Ensign:
All new simmers on the USS Iomega start out as Ensigns. At this stage
you
will learn the basics of simming. In fact if you are reading this
chances are
that *you* are an Ensign.
-Lieutenant Junior Grade:
To become a Lt. Jg you must of do three things. The first is that you
must
of sent a BIO out to the crew. The Second is that you must of achived a
minimum of 8 log credits. And finally you must have been simming on the
ship
for at least a month.
-Lieutenant:
To get the rank of Lieutenant you must have gotten 16 log credits.
Also you
must have 4 months service time and shown to us that you know what your
doing.
-First Lieutenant:
To become a 1st Lieutenant you must excel in your department, achive 25
log
credits and have 8 months service time.
-Lieutenant Commander:
To become a Lt. Cmdr you must show that you have the ability to lead
others.
You must be a team player. And you must achive 40 log credits and have a
total of 10 moths service time.
-Commander, Captain and up:
The rank of Commander is mostly reserved for the Ships XO. The title
of
Captain is appointed by the FKA council and so is everything above it.
<<>>
4) Senior Staff
-Dept Head:
The Department head is appointed by the CO and is somewhat like a
promotion.
The Dept Heads run there department sorta like how the CO runs his ship.
When
you are a Dept Head you go to briefings held by the Capt, most of the
time
hang around on the bridge, and just do alto of cool stuff. You must have
a
minimum rank of Lt Jg to be a Dept Head.
-Senior Officer
Somewhat like the Department Heads are the Senior Officers. These men
or
women can be thought of as Department Heads with no department. They
still
answer to the Dept Head of there Dept but get to got to briefings and
hang
around on the bridge.
-List of Senior Staff positions:
Chief Ops Officer
Chief Tac Officer
Chief Sec Officer
Chief Eng Officer
Chief Med Officer
Chief Sci Officer
Marines Team Leader
*Helm
*Counselor
*Intelligence Liaison
