Jessica was born on Long Island. With no siblings, she relied heavily on other children in her neighborhood to fill that space. Unfortunately, she wasn't one of the more popular children. Jessica ended up being a bit of a loner.
Once she moved from junior high to high school, however, she became part of an enormous group of people. She had never had so many people she could call friends in her life. Of course, with more friends came more people to worry about. It was these experiences that taught her that quality is much more important that quanitity. It was this lack of quality with many of those people that has caused her to pull away from many of her old high school friends. Those that are still friends with her now are the friends she holds most dear.
While in high school, Jessica joined the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls. This ended up being a very big part of her life. Jessica served as NY's Representative to three states, as Worthy Advisor of her Assembly, as Grand Drill Leader for NY State, as Area Lecturer (ritual instructor) for Long Island, and was initiated into the Grand Cross of Color. As a member of the Grand Cross, she served as Sister of Victory for Initiation at Grand Assembly. She was also given the honor of carrying the NY State Rainbow Flag at Grand Assembly. She was a member for 7 years until she turned 21, receiving her majority by age from the Order. She continues to help out and be active whenever she can.
After suffering through a physical assembly line job at Whitman Packaging and the low paying IRS, Jess spent two years in the typical world of retail jobs that seems to entrap a good many high school and college students. All were necessary evils, according to her, but she dealt with everything because she had to.
Before going into retail, Jess started out in college as a Physical Therapy major at Suffolk County Community College. Half way through the first semester, she discovered that the medical field wasn't for her. She drifted for the next two semesters, not really sure where she wanted to go.
With her deep interest in the technology world and the advancement of computers (the constant change intrigues her), Jessica enrolled in the Computer Science degree program at her school. This eventually led to her job at Computer Associates, International and her release from the retail choke that holds most college and high school students.
Jessica then vowed never to return to retail. As much as she enjoyed working with people, the unsteady schedule, standing all day, and inconsistant paycheck just weren't for her.
However, her cushy office job didn't last. It was only a temporary assignment and, as such, it had to end. Jessica remained unemployed for over a year. During this time, she became more involved in Rainbow and started getting involved with the Theatre Dept at school. Since then, she has been in three plays (two Shakespearean) and was asked to participate in the Grand Cross of Color degree for Rainbow.
Also during this jobless time, Jessica went through a bad break up with her boyfriend of five years. It was a tough time to go through. The relationship itself had been hard because he was in the Navy and never home. After he was discharged, they fought constantly and were always putting each other down. It became a daily struggle just to stay together. They broke up and have slowly reconciled their differences. Jessica knows, though, that they'll never really be good friends.
Later on, much to her embarassment, her mother asked her friend, Kerri, if she knew anyone to set Jessica up with. Her friend agreed and, after months of planning and coordinating schedules together, the four of them got together. Jessica, Kerri, Kerri's boyfriend, and a guy named Steve went out to dinner. Jess headed in with a slightly pessimistic attitude, not really expecting anything to come out of the evening. However, she quickly discovered that she had a lot in common with Kerri's group of friends and even more in common with Steve.
They've been together and very happy since. :-D
Jess spent that summer working at Splish Splash Water Park in the Finance Department, helping count incoming cash flows and set up group visits for schools and families. That was just a seasonal job and, come Labor Day, Jess was out of a job again.
However, all was not lost. Jess had a few interviews with some departments in Nortel Networks for various testing positions and, a month after leaving Splish Splash, landed one as a Systems Test Technician in Quality Assurance.
