A few terms you should know. Alley-oop--When you get up to the rail then turn 180 and grind backwards.
Fakie--When you jump off the rail once done with the grind and either 180 or 540 off and land.
Negative--Any grind that you do negative means that you are grinding on the inside plate of your skate instead of the soul.
Torque--Going torque is when the foot that is not in soul position is leaned inward.
Farside--A farside is when a trick is performed on the edge of an object opposite your approach. So if you were to come at a rail from the right side, then jump over it and lock onto a grind on the other side, you'd be doing it farside.
Topside--A topside grind is when your souling foot is grinding on top of the obstacle instead of the side. The weight should be centered on the frame instead of the sole of the boot as well.
Switch--Switch is when you do a grind with your other feet. For example, if you use your right foot as your soul foot to soul, you would use your left foot for soul position and your right foot for the H-block grind.
Rewind--A rewind is the move you do coming out of a grind. For example, if you do a soul but instead of just jumping off you do a 180 and land backwards, you are doing a "soul to 180 rewind" or a "soul to 180 out."
Now the tricks.--------------------------------------------------------
Frontside--A frontside is when both of your feet are grinding on their H-blocks and you are facing the rail as you go up to it.
Backside--A backside is the same grind as a frontside except you comeup to the other side of the rail and you turn the other way before you grind.
Soul--A soul grind is when your right foot is grinding with the plate sticking out of the right side of the skate. This is called soul position. Your left foot is grinding on its H-block and your toes should be facing to the right.
Acid Soul--An acid soul is the same as a soul grind, but your front foot is turned 180 to the left and still grinding on your H-block.
Miszou--A miszou grind is like an acid soul, but your soul foot(the foot in soul posistion) is in front of the other foot. This grind is similar to a T-stop, only its a grind.
Acid Miszou--An acid miszou is mostly called a pornstar. A pornstar is like a soul, only the soul foot is in front and the other foot can be leaned back. This trick is best when you bend your knees and get low.
Makio--A makio is when your right foot is in soul position and leaned over a little. Your left foot is not grinding and all. Makio-ing is easiest when your grab your left foot while grinding.
Fishbrain--A fishbrain is basically a makio, but you lean WAY over.
Soyale--A soyale grind is just a torque soul. Torque means the foot that isn't in soul position is leaned inward.
Sweatstance--A sweatstance is a topside miszou. Your back foot is in frontside position and your front foot is in topside soul position. To maintain balance, keep most of your weight on your front foot.
X grind--When you're doing an x grind, you are facing straight ahead (looking down the rail or ledge) and your skates are crossed. Your back foot is in the soul position and it's easiest to put most of your weight here. Your front foot is in the topside position. If you want to get tricky, try to lean and put more weight on your topside foot.
Royale--A royale is just like a frontside, but with a slight variation. For this grind your front foot is in the normal frontside position, but your back foot is bent way back so you are grinding on the outer edge of your H-block and also on the outside of the frame. It's ok to ride on the outside of your boot, too;the important thing is just to keep your back foot bent.It can be a little tricky keeping your balance, so try to keep most of your weight on your front foot or else you can slip backwards.
Unity--A unity is just like a frontside (grinding on both H-blocks) except your legs are crossed. When your back leg is crossed over your front legt it's a unity. If your front is over your back it's a savannah. It's easiest to do these grinds when both feet are in royale position.
Fahrvergnugen--A fahrvergnugen is often shortened to 'farv' or 'nugen' but the trick is still the same. This is another variation of the frontside grind. Your back foot should be in frontside position, grinding on the h-block, but your front foot is bent away from you into the royale position. To do this grind you need to lean back a bit and keep most of your weight over your back foot or else your front skate will catch and you'll get tripped up.
Fastslide--A fastslide is like a one-footed frontside. The only foot you're grinding on is your front foot, which should be in frontside position. Balance is the key for this grind and you need to lean forward. Imagine that you're a seesaw and your front foot is the pivot. You need to balance the weight of your non-grinding foot (in back) with the weight of some of your body (in front).
Mistrial--A mistrial is a miszou, but your back foot is in royale position.
Kindgrind--A kindgrind is an alley-oop sweatstance or an alley-oop topside miszou.
Backslide--A backslide grind is like a royale, except you're not grinding with your front foot. Tricks explained by Justin Forde and Ashley Pete. |
