James Warren Taylor

Lead Vocals

(1979 - 1986)

Any one who knows Kool & The Gang must know J.T. Taylor, the lead vocalist the band added in 1979 because they decided they needed a change of direction.
The band continued to play and write as the always had done but now J.T. sung what they wrote and after two years started writing significantly himself often in collaberation with Ronald Bell and sometimes with George Brown and these collaberations became many of the bands greatest hits in the eighties.
He stayed in the band for many years but eventually left after the Forever LP and Kool & The Gang soon stopped charting, not because they weren't any good anymore - they never stopped being brilliant - but because too many people can't see past the hole he left.
James means "supplanter" ,
Warren means "stockyard" and
Taylor means "to cut".
