| When vitality is running low and the devils are moving in for the kill, you can use items to regain your strength and continue kicking some butt. OBTAINING ITEMS Each character starts off with a Cital Star S and a Devil Star S. Most items are purchased from shops (such as God of Time Statues, and the Power Up menu before each mission). To purchase items, you must collect Red Orbs released by enemies that are defeated or from the enviroment. Usually, each item you purchase causes the price to rise. For instance, the first Vital Star S purchased costs 1000 Red Orbs, while the second one will cost 2000 Red Orbs, etc. The cost continues to rise until you have purchased five of the item, and then the price freezes for the remainder of your purchases. This rise in cost is to dissuade you from relying on the use of items, since they lower your mission ranking. You can purchase all items save for Red Orbs, White Orbs, Blue Orb Fragment, Green Orbs, Holy Waters, and Amulet Stones. USING ITEMS To use an item during combat, press SELECT to enter the Status menu. Choose the item option, and use L3 to select an item to use. At the end of each mission, you'll receive a Devil Hunter Rank that summarizes your efforts. Each item used lowers your "Item Used" rank by about one grade, thus for lowering your overall grade. RED ORB A crystal with condensed demon blood, used to gain new power. One or more Red Orbs are released when each enemy is destroyed. To collect Red Orbs, move your character toward them and the characters' devil essence will attract them. To view the number of Red Orbs in possession, enter the Power Up menu or the Item menu. Or when in game, press R1 and the number will be displayed in the upper right corner. Red orbs can be traded in at shops for items as well as weapon upgrades. GOLD ORB A crystal generated by the immortals, containing the power of resurrection. Only one Gold Orb can be possessed at a time. When the character with a Gold Orb is killed, he/she will automatically be resurrected with full bitality and DT gauges. Gold Orbs are valuable, and are aften hidden. Sometimes they are even used as bait by the demons, to ambush the characters. When a Gold Orb is found during a mission, 100 Red Orbs are also awarded. Gold Orb Costs 1st - 10,000 2nd - 20,000 3rd - 40,000 4th+ - 20,000 WHITE ORB A crystal with condensed demon tears that restore energy to the DT Gauges. Enemies sometimes drop White Otbs when the character is low on DT power. If you manage to kill the entire monster set with a high stylish combo and don't get a scratch, the chances are even higher. White orbs are always obtained by clearing Secret Rooms. BLUE ORB FRAGMENT A fragment of a vital energy orb. When four of these are obtained, they become a Blue Orb, and the vitality meter will increase in length. The number of Blue Orb Fragments obtained can be viewed in the Item menu. Blue Orb Fragments are obtained by searching hidden and hard to reach places, and by finding and clearing certain Secret Rooms. BLUE ORB A crystal with vital force that increases the capacity of the vitality meter. Each Blue Orb obtained/assembled will increase your vitality meter. When the meter reaches the maximum length, it will double over and fill twice. Blue Orbs are hidden in hard to reach areas in various missions. Four Blue Orb Fragments makes a single Blue Orb. Up to five Blue Orbs can be purchased through the shops. Blue Orb Costs 1st - 3,000 2nd - 6,000 3rd - 10,000 4th - 15,000 5th - 20,000 PURPLE ORB A crystal containing the soul of an arch devil, which will increase the length of the DT gauge. The only way to obtain Purple Orbs is to buy them from the shops, where you can buy up to five. When the DT meter is increased, the character can remain in DT longer, thus causing more damage from their attacks. Purple Orb Costs 1st - 3,000 2nd - 6,000 3rd - 10,000 4th - 15,000 5th - 20,000 GREEN ORB A crystal with condensed demon fluid, which will restore vitality for those who bear demon blood. Defeated enemies sometimes drop Green Orbs when the character's vitality is low, when the player has fought with a high stylish combo rating. They can also be obtained by smashing certain objects in the enviroment, and by destroying all the enemies in the Secret Rooms. VITAL STAR L A special stone imbued with a demon's vital force that recovers a large amount of vitality, and when used from the Item menu, where it must be used from, restores about one full line of the citality gauge. These must be purchased from shops, and you can carry 10 of these. Vital Star L Costs 1st - 2,000 2nd - 4,000 3rd+ - 8,000 VITAL STAR S A special stone with vital force that recovers about half of a full line of vitality and must also be used from the Item menu. Each character begins the game with only one in their inventory. These can be purchased from shops, and you can hold 30 of these at any one given time. Vital Star S Costs 1st - 1,000 2nd - 2,000 3rd - 3,000 4th - 4,000 5th+ - 5,000 DEVIL STAR L A special stone imbued with a demon's enemergy that restores about one full line of the DT Gauge, and must be used from the Item menu. Devil Star Ls can be bought from shops. Devil Star L Costs 1st - 3,000 2nd - 6,000 3rd+ - 12,000 DEVIL STAR S A special stone that recovers about half of a full DT bar. You start off with only one of these, and can be purchased from shops. Devil Star S 1st - 1,000 2nd - 3,000 3rd - 5,000 4th - 7,000 5th+ - 10,000 HOLY STAR A special stone of divine blessing that purifies the body. Several enemies use attacks that will poison the character for a full minute. poisoning is denoted by a purplish glow surrounding the character, as well as the vitality meter flashing purple. Vitality will slowly dimish while you are poisoned. Using a Holy Star gets rid of the poison with one use, and you can carry up to 99 of them. You purchase these from shops, where the price stays permanentlly affixed at 1,000 Red Orbs for one. HOLY WATER A special powder blue colored orb sometimes released by defeated demons if Dante has not taken damage during the battle and fhas a high stylish combo rating. When collected with all the other orbs, all enemies are instantly killed, and bosses take heavy damage if in the vicinity. SMELL OF FEAR Condensed emotion of the demons, which can be used to negate damage from the next threee attacks from an enemy, and can only be used from the Item menu. As long as it's in effect, the character pulsates with white light, and can not be knocked down/stunned until they get attacked 3x by any enemy, thus dissapating the effect. These can be obtained through shops and three can be held in your inventory. Smell of Fear Costs 1st -5,000 2nd - 10,000 3rd+ - 20,000 AMULET STONES The demon blood coursing through the veins of the heroes enables them to transform into powerful creatures of destruction. But their human side limits this transformation to a short period of time. The half-human, half-demon hunters are capable of modifying the powers of their transformed state, called Devil Trigger or DT, by wearing certain magic amulets. Amulet Stones inserted into these amulets enhance their abilities while in DT. Crescent moon-shaped stones add new abilites such as improved swimming or running and even flying. Circular stones add the power of magical elements to attacks, so that fire, ice, or lightning occur during fighting. Teardrop stones allow the wearer to regain health, deal double damage, and even stop enemies in their tracks. Three of these stones can be inserted into the amulet at one time, one of each shape. AQUA HEART For Lucia's use only during her underwater missions, this magic stone enables faster swimming and maneuvering while underwater at much faster speed, and also rises or decends faster. AERIAL HEART This enables the hunters to fly. Press X to jump off the ground and spread their wings. Move L3 to fly around. Tap X rapidly to ascend rapidly upwards, or hold X to rise slowly. To descend faster than normal hold . Certain attacks, such as Air Rad and Round Trip can only be performed while flying in the air. Sometimes, the only way to continue is by flying to an exit near the ceiling of a room. QUICK HEART This greatly increases ground-running and attack speeds. When the character needs to cross long areas or run behind an enemy very quickly, this heart is sure to help succeed. FLAME HEART With this stone equipped, all of the characters attacks become fire imbued. Fired bullets with explode into flame on contact, as well as the swords used with burn when they come into contact with enemies. Most demons are weak against fire, but those that use fire themselves will be strong against it. Creatures that use ice attacks or live underwater will be weak against it. FROST HEART This stone makes all attacks imbued with ice. Fire demons will be weak to this one, while blue-ish or water enemies will be strong against it. ELECTRO HEART The power of lightning has a strong effect upon demons that rely on metal armor and weapons. Unfortunately, few demons do. EVIL HEART Appearing only during Lucia;s missions, the Evil Heart is a cursed object that drains the vitality of the hunter while it is possessed. Lucia in inflicted with this item for a short time, and must insert it into a slot within the Power Plant to be rid of it. The Evil Heart will be coverted into the Electro Heart for her. While the Evil Heart is draining Lucia's life, equip the Healing Heart and DT occasionally to regain vitality lost to the effects of the curse. HEALING HEART This enables the possessor to regain life, and can be used to fight the effects of poison and the Evil Heart. Very helpful during long boss fights, or when Green Orbs are in short supply. OFFENSE HEART Although the characters attacks are strong usually, their attack power can be doubled by equipping this. Throwing weapons and guns get the most noticeable boost from this. CHRONO HEART This enables the user to attack each enemy several times before the enemies get to move a single step. In essence, you can move REALLY fast. |
