Basmati Pilaf with Cherries & Lentils

2 cups Basmati rice

1� cups julienne cut onion

2/3 cup red lentils, washed

1� cups fresh cherries, pitted

2� cups vegetable or chicken broth

� tsp. Turmeric

� tsp. cumin

salt to taste

2-4 tbsps. unsalted butter to taste

.

In a large saucepan add the butter and saute the onion until golden. Add the red lentils and the rice, brown and gently stir constantly so it won't stick.

Add in the spices and a litttle salt. Add in the broth, stir, cover and simmer for about 25 mins. Present as a side dish.
