Chapter 24

I wake up and the sun isnt shining anymore.  Its dark out and the moonlight is shining in, cascading across the room.  Im feeling a little cold and I realize that Im naked and that I dont have any blankets covering me.  Instead, Joey has them wrapped around her.  I find an edge and I begin to pull on it, trying to free the blanket, but even in her sleep, her grip is like a vice.  I give on hard tug and it doesnt free the blanket.  It only causes Joey to stir and move to my side of the bed.  Well, this is just great, I thought to myself.

Well, since I cant get a blanket, I go into the bathroom to find one of the complimentary robes and slip into it.  I come back into the room and go over to the sliding glass door.  I open it slowly and quietly, trying not to wake Joey.  I step outside and the cool air hits me hard.  I shiver at first, but then it becomes comforting and I settle down into one of the chairs.  Its so quiet out with the exception of the waves crashing against the sand.  Its so peaceful.  Like a lullaby.

Not really knowing what time it was, I just sit there staring at the horizon.  Seeing a slight glow along the edge.  It must be early morning.  I didnt realize we slept that long.  Oh, well.  I might as well enjoy this moment.  I dont remember when the last time was when I saw the sun rise.  Being in New York can do that to you.  All the tall buildings, blocking the sun in the morning, only to have it reflect against the windows, blinding you.  Thank God for the subway.

Slowly the sun rises up past the horizon.  Its going at a snail pace, and its like someone presses the fast-forward button, making it rise in seconds.  Its so beautiful and I close my eyes to permanently imprint this into my memory, never to forget it.  The oranges and yellows, meeting up with the dark blues, causing an explosion of white clouds and light blue skies.  The birds begin to chirp in these early hour and for once, Im not damning them to hell.  It just sounds really nice.

I hear sounds coming from the bedroom and I get up.  I walk towards the entrance and I look back once more at the sun, just to make sure I remember this view.  I walk in and shes siting up on the bed.

I thought you left.  She told me in a saddened voice.

Sorry bout that, I just needed to take a breath of fresh air.  I say to her as I sit down next to her, bringing her in my arms.  I kiss her on her temple, Im sorry.

Its not your fault.  You didnt know when I was going to wake up.  She wraps her arms around me, squeezing me tight.  Did you sleep well?

I was waiting for her to ask me that.  Well, I was sleeping just fine until I woke up freezing because I was naked and somebody we both know likes to hog the blankets.

She looks up at me with innocent eyes.  Who could that be?  I doubt I know them.

Well, you see, shes about your height, with brown hair and eyes, and she has the most perfect body.  I smile at her to let her know Im joking.

She smacks me.  Hard.  I defiantly did not expect that.  You cheating on me Witter?

Hardly.  You are the only women for me.  I place my hand over my heart dramatically.  She laughs once and then she grabs me and kisses me, falling back on the bed.  I am in complete bliss.
