Ch. 7 The Bottom of it All

Wufeis eyes fluttered open to see a dim, cement room.  Once he regained his vision, he began to hear voices.

Shitit hurts
Quiet, Duo.  Complaining wont help, Heero said sourly.

Wufei rose to his feet and wobbled a bit, still dizzy from the drugs the darts delivered.  He looked around to see Trowa in the corner, holding his arm, and Quatre, trying to comfort Duo, who had three stab wounds in his stomach.  Heero just glared from the corner, clearly pissed that he failed his mission.
Wufei wasnt feeling any happier.  He couldnt stand the fact that he was unable to protect anyone so far, and secondly, he was hating himself for losing to a couple of women.

HeyWufei Duo gasped. Niceto see you alive.

Wufei silently sat down and stared at Duo.

Probablywonderin how I got this way.  Lets just say, the woman was a bit too tempting.
Youre lucky she didnt do something worse, Quatre said quietly.
No shit, Duo barely had enough air to say.
Id save your breath if I were you, Sira snickered from a suddenly open doorway to Wufeis left.
Kisama Wufei glared viciously.
Now, dont treat my lovely ladies like that, Wufei, a voice said from behind Sira.
Its that voice I heard!  Before I passed out! Quatre exclaimed.
Hinori walked in. Yes, did you figure it out?  Ill give you a hint.  Its not me.
And it cant be me, Sira teased. I was busy with Duo at the time of Quatres capture.
I see, Trowa said, knowing exactly who the voice was.
It cant be Wufei doubted.
Oh, but it is, the voice mocked.
Heero stood up. Konran.

Konran walked into the light of the cell, wearing a casual black pair of pants with a loose, black Chinese jacket.

Tell us, how do you know these five? Sira asked.
I met them a while ago, in the war.  Its none of your business.
I should have known from the start, Wufei growled. Only someone like you would know us so well, that you could predict what could make us fall.
Exactly.  Now, Im sorry to have put you through all this.  Especially Duo.  How are you?  Surviving?
Heh, like you care.  Still sporting my hairdo, huh?
I had this braid long before I met you.  But back to the matter before us.  Dont worry, Duo.  Sira will pay for your pain.

Konran flung a knife from the Chinese coat pocket at Sira, striking her right in the throat.  A garbled scream escaped her lips as she grabbed her neck, blood pouring over her fingers as she collapsed.  Hinori stood back with wide eyes, watching her friend choke to death.

Take note, Hinori.  Dont you dare harm one of my friends here.
Hypocrite Duo mumbled.
Time for answers, Konran, Heero demanded.
Konran sighed. Fine, as you wish.  I have been holding the bombs for one purpose, and that is to wipe out the two ESUN headquarters located here in Canada.  I find they arent doing their job, dont you think?  Besides, I can kill your precious Relena at the same time.  She will be there this afternoon, wont she?  I always hated that bitch.

Heeros blood was boiling, but he knew he would be a fool to try and rush Konran now.  He was aware of how much Konran knew about his fighting style.

So, I didnt want you foiling my plans.  I faked the message to Quatre, knowing that only he could get you all here.  The EUSN knows nothing about me.
Howthe hell did youget us to stop at this place? Duo asked.
Konran stared down at Duo. Hinori, bandage him up.  Now, for your question.  I had originally set up a road block only a mile ahead, to make you turn around.  It was pure luck that you came here the first time around.  Konran walked to the door of the cell.  Now I have to go.  Its already the next day, and I have a couple bases to blow up.

Hinori got up from helping Duo and followed Konran out the door.  The door slid shut smoothly, leaving barely any cracks between it and the wall.  Once Wufei was sure they were gone, he got up and removed the knife from Siras neck, whose body was still lying on the floor.

Still careless, Wufei sneered.

Fluently, he walked to the door and started crumbling the cement away from a spot in the door close to the opening, but not quite.

Dude, hows that gonna help? Duo asked.
Let him be, Duo.  Hes got it figured out, Heero said.

Soon, Wufei hit an array of wires in the cement.  There were two green ones, one blue, two black, and one yellow.  Wufei stared at the wires, puzzled.

Whats wrong, Wufei? Quatre asked.
There seems to be one missing, Trowa answered for him.

Wufei scrapped away more cement, but didnt find the wire he was looking for.

Konran must have changed the color of one of the cords, Wufei cursed.
Heero walked up to the system. Its one of the black ones.

Wufei took the knife and started carving away at one of the wires, ever so softly.  Just as he hoped, paint chipped away to expose the red underneath.  Wasting no time, Wufei cut the wire and the door opened.

Wufei! Quatre cheered.
Lets go! Wufei stormed out of the room.
Heero turned around to Quatre and the others. Take yourselves to the van.  Wufei and I will handle everything.
Thanks, man, Duo smiled weakly.

By the time Heero caught up to Wufei, Wufei was already facing his first obstacleHinori.  She wielded a katana (Japanese sword) and was fighting a swordless Wufei, but losing.  Heero saw Wufeis sure win and headed to an open door down the hall.  The sunlight hit him as he entered a hallway with windows, and he could see Konran already starting a car that most likely held the warheads.  Konran must be taking it to the airfield two miles from here, Heero realized.  Without hesitation, Heero threw himself out the third story window and landed on the ground below, firmly.

If youre looking for the warheads, they arent in this car.

Heero glared suspiciously.

Its true.  I had Hinori ship them out this morning.  So, do you get your revenge on me now, or do you phone the ESUN bases and get them evacuated?  If you chose the latter, you only have Konran looked at the car clock. ...ten or so minutes.

Heero hesitated to do either at first, but decided to go find a phone as soon as he could.  Konran smiled, and drove away.

Wufei had long since defeated Hinori, and found his sword.  He headed out to the van where Trowa and the others were waiting.  Wufei wanted to catch up with Konran, who hed seen escape only moments ago.

Wheres that idiot, Yuy?! Wufei yelled with rage.
Hes inside, saving the ESUN from the attack, Quatre said.
Damn him!
Wufei, for once, let go Duo instructed. Its moreimportant to save the people than getting revenge on Konran.

Wufei sighed irritably, and looked up to see Heero coming out of the house.

Mission complete, Heero declared.  The ESUN is evacuating this very moment.
Thank you, Heero!  Were so happy theyll be safe, Quatre smiled.
Duo relaxed and sighed. Damn, no more missions, you guys.  I may be only 21, but I think Ive already grown too old for this.
My mission still isnt over, Wufei stared down the road. Well meet again, Konran.  And I will defeat you.  Sore ga seigi da!

**phew, so much typing!  Well, its finally done.  What did you think?  Please email me with comments!  Sorry to end with a Japanese quote, but it means That is justice!  Oh, Im so evilpoor Duo!**
Duo: Yeah, whats wrong with you?!
Wufei: Youre starting to be like Trieze.
Konran: Dont you DARE compare me to that horrible man!
