There are innumerable ways in which the woman feels about her husband. In response to this, she expresses her feelings in various ways. It is not important whether the woman is a good person or not. Based on this idea, women feels that man needs woman’s support, therefore she expresses her feeling by being understanding and supportive. As shown in the Arthur Miller’s play, The Crucible, and it is also shown in the Anne Bradstreet’s poem To My Dear and Loving Husband, both author uses literary elements and techniques to exemplifies the controlling idea about the importance of woman’s love for her husband.

Arthur Miller uses characterization as a literary element that allows the reader to have a better understanding of the character. As shown in the play, Elizabeth was John Proctor’s wife. Elizabeth was cold to John. She is a type of woman who is suspecting John having an affair with Abigail. Although, she might have been suspicious, but her character slowly develop throughout the play and she was shown as a loving, caring and as an understanding wife. She knew that John was having an affair with Abigail. Elizabeth asked John to testify to the court that there has been a fraud in the community. John refused to take Elizabeth advise, Elizabeth may have seen a little disappointed, but she continue to support John for his decision because she loves him and she sees John to be weak and confuse. Elizabeth wanted to be there for John when he needed someone to support him.

In the poem, the woman felt united with her husband, her joy and happiness of loving her husband was believed to be crucial. An example of this concept is shown in the quote, "I prize thy love more than whole mines of gold or all the riches that the East doth hold. My love is such that Rivers cannot quench. Thy love is such I can no way repay… That when we live no more, we may live ever." The writer suggested the woman’s love for her husband could not be compare with anything in the world. Spiritually the love for her husband will live with her forever. Even when she is no longer alive her spirit of her love for her husband will continue to survive.

Authors used different techniques and element to portray the woman feelings about her husband. But both genres show similarities in the women attitudes toward love. Women show their understanding for their husband by expressing their patient and supporting them, by expressing the important of their love for them. In another words, woman shows their loyalty and respects for their husband based on their love. In return for her love, she believe that she receive happiness.

In conclusion, women express their feeling of love for their husband based on the idea that women feels their husband lose a sense of security, as a result, it led to confusion. Women express their feelings by standing beside her husband and support his decision where it is right or wrong. Writers portray the women to be understanding, important, unselfish, and supportive. Women are willing to give up their dignity, their wealth in exchange for their love that they receive from her husband.
