Warnings: Yaoi, angst, bit of bloody gory-ness, bad language, overused storyline... I like torturing my favourite characters. Bishies in pain are so much fun. Author: Koneko Shido A/N: The whole 'trapped together in a small, dark place' thing has been done loads of times, but I like it so I'm taking my turn. Heheh. Hope you enjoy! Trapped With You "Oh, great." Seto muttered to himself as he looked up from his place sitting on a bench in the almost empty mall, noticing a familiar crimson-spiked haircut travelling towards him. Below the wild gold, red and black hair was Yami, on his own for a change. Thank heaven for small mercies. "Kaiba." The former pharaoh greeted, nodding his head politely. "Yami." Kaiba ground back, not entirely happy to see his rival when all he wanted to do was be alone. Mokuba had friends over, and he was tired of them yelling and running around his mansion. He didn't have the heart to tell Mokuba to get rid of them, though, so he'd decided to go out. It was cold outside this late at night, but the mall was still open and relatively empty. It had all been going fine until Yami turned up, damn him. Was peace and quiet too much to ask? Apparently so. "What are you doing?" Yami asked, curious as to what the great and powerful Seto Kaiba would be doing on his own in the mall at nine at night. Seto sighed, seeing that Yami wasn't going to leave him alone any time soon as the pharaoh sat down beside him. "Getting some peace. Mokuba has friends over. The maid is looking after them." Seto explained, pinching the bridge of his nose. He was getting a headache. Today had just been too full of noise and problems and people rushing around and telling him things he had to remember... It was times like these he just wanted the entire world to shut the hell up and leave him alone. He'd never really been a people person, he reflected wryly. "Oh. Yugi and Ryou wanted some time alone." The pharaoh explained what he was doing there, smirking slightly. Yugi had the puzzle, but Yami couldn't feel his end of the link they shared. It was pretty obvious what Yugi and Ryou were doing... "Hmm." Seto murmured. He was tired, he wanted it to be nine thirty already so he could go home and kick those kids out, and go to bed. Everything was too loud today. Seto stopped in his thoughts, realizing something. It wasn't too loud. As a matter of fact, right now everything had become dead silent. Not just the fact that he and Yami weren't speaking, but the fact that everyone else seemed to have stopped too. It was eerie, yet nobody spoke, and the air was tense. It was like they were all waiting for something, but they didn't know what. Seto felt it too, the strange nagging knowledge that something big was about to happen. It was like the calm before the storm, the way the first crack of thunder was always expected, somehow. Yami, sitting next to the taller teenager, shivered. He didn't know what was happening, only the feeling that reminded him of someone slowly pressing a pin harder and harder against a balloon, waiting tensely for the moment when it would inevitably explode. Something was going to happen. Something bad, though it wasn't any sort of magic; he would have sensed that. Then it began, though not in a violent burst as Yami had half expected. There was a soft rumbling and the ground began to vibrate beneath them, the trance-like state they'd been in snapping as far away on the other side of the mall a few people began to scream. Seto stood up quickly as a store window shattered across from them and items began to fall off shelves in the shops, the vibrating becoming more and more violent. "What is it?!" Yami gasped, afraid. He'd never experienced anything like this before, it was like the tremors in the ground that sometimes came, only much stronger. "An earthquake. A bad one." Seto growled, pulling Yami to his feet. "This place isn't safe, come on." He made to move forward, dragging Yami with him. They were in a relatively open space in the middle of the mall filled with benches, and bits of plaster from the domed ceiling far above them were raining down like snow. Suddenly the shaking of the ground intensified and they were both jerked from their feet to fall on the floor, Yami on his back and Seto next to him on his knees. A crack opened up in the floor a few metres away and snaked around them in a wide circle, surrounding the entire circular seating area with a jagged outline and trapping the two of them inside. "Shit," Seto exclaimed, noticing the crack in the marble tiles of the floor. "The floor is going to cave into the basement, Yami, we have to get out of here-" He stopped as he noticed that the pharaoh was looking up at the ceiling above them with wide eyes, holding his breath. Looking up, Seto watched as time slowed down and the larger crack snaking violently across the ceiling towards them spilt the roof of the mall in half, and a rain of dust and plaster began. Smaller cracks were spreading out in a spider web from the first, and Seto knew a second before it happened that the entire ceiling was about to collapse on them. There was a hell of a lot of concrete and plaster up there. With a snarled curse, Seto threw himself over Yami, holding himself up on his hands and knees as it finally happened. Chunks of brick and debris slammed down in one huge rush right on top of them, sending up a huge cloud of dust and causing enough extra weight that the floor finally caved in and they fell through, along with what was left of the roof, into the blackness of the basement parking lot below. * * * Yami opened his crimson eyes and instantly set about coughing, his lungs filled with dust from the earthquake. He'd been knocked out for a while, and it took him a few moments to remember what had happened as he looked around the small, dark space he was now in. He could see by the headlights that glowed from a half-crushed car beneath the rubble nearby, and he seemed to be trapped. A large section of the roof had fallen to block the debris-filled hole he'd fallen into and chunks of plaster and concrete lay scattered about what had been an underground parking lot. By the looks of it he was trapped in there because in every direction were walls of detritus and piles of bricks that he had no hope of shifting without help. Not that he really needed to, he was a spirit and he could easily just vanish back to his puzzle. Although, it was strange that he'd come out of the whole thing relatively unscathed apart from a few cuts and scrapes. The pharaoh stopped, his blood running cold. He knew why he was safe. Kaiba. Kaiba had been there, he'd shielded Yami with himself, and the roof had fallen. Right on top of him... Yami gasped a curse and began to search around frantically, digging in the piles of debris and calling out Kaiba's name. "Kaiba!! Where are you!! Please, Ra, please be alright..." He prayed, freezing at a sound from the other side of the small space. "Unhh..." A soft moan of pain, from beneath a sheet of corrugated iron. Yami ran over and pulled the dented metal sheet away, falling to his knees beside his rival, who lay on the cold ground on his back with his head turned to the side and his hair falling into his closed eyes, a heavy cement section of roof on top of his left leg. "About time you got here." He rasped out in pain, though he kept his eyes closed. "Ra..." Yami whispered, staring at the block on Kaiba's leg. The young CEO opened his sapphire eyes and scowled at him. "I'd appreciate some assistance, though you know I hate to ask you for anything. Then again, you do owe me." Seto gave a slightly pained smirk, berating himself for being such an idiot and instinctively covering Yami when the roof had begun to cave in. The guy was a spirit, for god's sake! What the hell could rocks do to him?! Well, Seto had found out the hard way that he was not in the slightest bit resistant to huge blocks of cement raining from the ceiling on top of him. Although, Yami had a scrape across one pale cheek that made Seto think. If he could be injured like that, who was to say he couldn't die? Not that it was really important right now, since his leg was broken and that chunk of debris needed to be moved. Yami looked down at the block on Kaiba's leg and scowled, getting a firm hold on it. "This is going to hurt." He warned the CEO, who growled. "I'm aware of that." Seto replied, gritting his teeth with a sharp gasp and digging his nails into the floor for lack of anything better to hold on to as Yami moved the block from his leg as gently as he could and let it fall to the side to join the other debris. "Are you alright?" Yami asked, looking from Seto's leg to the CEO's face, which was cast into a frown of pain. Seto bit back the urge to make some smart reply to that and simply nodded, not trusting himself to speak without making some pathetic pained sound. "Is there anything I can do?" Yami asked, feeling helpless. Seto took a few deep breaths and opened his eyes, sitting up a little to look down at his leg and feeling a stab of pain in his chest and side. He fell back, gasping. "Kaiba? What is it?!" Yami demanded, but Seto just waved him off with a growl, talking being a little beyond him at the moment. Broken ribs, fractured leg... Fuck it. He shuddered involuntarily as unconsciousness began to creep over him, forcing him back down into darkness and relief from the pain. Yami watched helplessly as Seto glared briefly at him then the executive's eyes slid closed and he went limp, his broken body relaxing into unconsciousness. He felt so useless! There wasn't even anything he could use to try and set Kaiba's leg, only bricks and plaster and dust filled their little prison. And he couldn't very well go back to the puzzle and tell Yugi what had happened because that would mean leaving Kaiba, and once he left he could not return to the CEO's side. He had to watch over his rival, and he was sure Yugi and the others would come for them, he'd told Yugi and Ryou he was going to the mall anyway. They would have rescue crews to dig them out, right? Settling down beside Kaiba, Yami shivered and used a corner of his blue coat to wipe away the dust from the unconscious teen's face, then looked down at his closed eyes. "Wake soon." He whispered to the taller duellist, "They will find us here." * * * Yami sighed, running a hand through his spiky hair distractedly. He'd searched everywhere for a way out, but none presented itself. The blocks barring the way were just too heavy or awkward for him to move. He'd looked in the crushed car for anything that might help them, relieved to find that there were no bodies in there as he'd almost expected. It appeared that the rocks that had fallen on top of the vehicle had triggered the headlights, they hadn't already been on when the earthquake had hit. There was nothing of any use to either himself or Kaiba in the car, though. Yami looked over at the headlights and wondered how long the battery would last before they were plunged into darkness. He'd thought long and hard about going back to the puzzle, but in the end staying with Kaiba had seemed the better option. If he left he couldn't get back. Of course, he could help dig Kaiba out if he left, but there would be no one with the young CEO to look after him, should something happen. After all, he did owe Kaiba for saving him. Yami's only injuries from the fall were a few cuts and scrapes, but he knew it could have been a lot worse if not for his rival. Physical strength had never been his forte, and had it not been for Seto he would probably have been sent back to the puzzle permanently. The thought made him shiver, remembering the deafening roar as the debris from the roof had rained down on them and the ground beneath his back had crumbled. It was hard to believe Kaiba had saved him, but at the same time he knew the taller duellist would never have left him to be crushed. In all the time he'd known Seto, Yami had gained quite an insight into the way the former priest thought and his sense of honour. He had his bad points, but he also had his good ones. He would never cheat, he would do anything for Mokuba... Yami knew that Kaiba had reasons for everything he did and had done in the past, and there were reasons he acted the way he did. It was intriguing the way those deep blue eyes seemed to be both burning and freezing at the same time, and even when Kaiba had been struggling not to cry out in agony, his eyes had still been strong and proud. It was admirable that the executive hadn't screamed when that block had been taken off his leg. Yami knew it must have hurt unbearably, but Kaiba had just gritted his teeth and dealt with it. His leg had been broken, but there was no blood, thankfully. Yami didn't know what he'd do if he had to stop Kaiba's bleeding, there was nothing he could use as bandages, even his own clothes were made of leather and would have been no use. "Nnhh..." A soft moan snagged Yami's attention and he turned toward where Kaiba was waking up, his pale face set into a frown of pain as the blissful release of unconsciousness faded away. "Kaiba? How do you feel?" Yami asked, crawling over to him and looking down into his sapphire eyes as they opened slowly, a little dazed at first. Then Kaiba seemed to become more aware of his surroundings and the memories of what had happened slowly filtered back into his pain-hazed mind. Looking up at Yami above him, he scowled. "How do you think I feel? My leg is crushed and-" He cut himself off, frowning. "Help me up." Yami wondered what Kaiba had been about to say before he cut himself off. Was there something else wrong with the other duellist he should know about? As far as he knew Seto's only injury was his broken leg, but he was beginning to suspect that his rival was hiding something from him. "Are you hurt anywhere else?" Yami asked, looking at Kaiba's black-clad leg. "No, now help me up." Seto lied, ignoring the screaming pan from his ribs and stomach as Yami helped him move to sit against the cold wall of the parking lot. The icy concrete at his back helped to numb the pain burning through him a little, and he glared silently at the debris trapping them. He hated asking for Yami's help, but moving anywhere on his own was beyond him in his current state. Everything hurt, but mostly it was concentrated in his leg and just below his ribs. He wondered if the latter pain was anything serious. Not that he was going to last long without food and water in this hole, with nothing to use to set his leg and nothing to numb the pain except the cool wall at his back, which, frankly, he would have traded in a second for a dose of some nice, strong painkillers. And then there was Yami, who he strongly suspected could leave at any time he wished, but insisted on sticking around to watch him crack from the pain. He growled lowly in his throat, drawing the pharaoh's attention. "You're still here." The CEO stated coldly, turning to glare in Yami's direction. A pair of crimson eyes stared back at him in slight confusion. "Do you really think I'd leave? You're hurt, and they'll find us soon. Yugi and Ryou know I'm here, they'll come dig us out." Kaiba just raised an eyebrow, wondering to himself if those two even noticed there'd been an earthquake. He hoped the maid was taking good care of Mokuba. * * * Part 2 * * * "It's been almost two days." Yami said, trying to make conversation with the suffering CEO, who sat with his back against the cold wall, his eyes closed. "They won't find us." Seto replied in a tired, weak shell of his usual strong voice, giving a slight coughed groan of pain. His leg was killing him. Fractured, probably. Near the ankle. Not that it really mattered where, his entire leg felt like one huge mass of raw, bleeding nerves, and the thought of the broken bone sickened him. Then again, a while longer like this and he'd have nothing to worry about. "How do you know?" Ah, Yami. Always so optimistic, even in the darkest and most hopeless of situations. "Nobody knows I'm here. And you haven't told Yugi where we are, so that he can get someone to dig us out. Not that I want his help anyway." Seto explained, scowling, though it was more with pain than anything else. "Why are you even still here? You could easily escape. Why don't you just go back to that damned puzzle?" "And leave you to die in this place?" Yami raised an eyebrow. He could escape whenever he wanted, but the moment he went back to the puzzle there would be no way for him to return to Seto. Leaving him wasn't an option. Hopefully Yugi would get worried after he didn't return to the puzzle, and look for him. It shouldn't be too hard to find him, if Yugi could get Ryou to use the ring. That thing could find anything, and they knew to look around the area where the mall was... or had been, anyway. "It doesn't matter to me what you do." Seto said, keeping his eyes closed, since even the dim light of the dying headlights hurt his eyes now. "There's no reason for you to still be here." "You want me to leave?" Yami asked, although he had no intention of doing so. Seto shifted a little and Yami could hear him choke back what would probably have been a cry of pain. "Yes. But I'd like you to do something for me." Seto hated to ask Yami for anything, but this was important, and this was not the time for petty rivalries. "What?" The spirit asked. He hated to see Seto like this, in so much pain and seeming to have given up hope of escape. Yami didn't know what it was like, after all he was a spirit, and therefore incapable of dying of hunger or thirst. Seto, for all his arrogance and superiority, was still only human and there was a good chance he would die in this place. "I want-" Seto began, but stopped and coughed into his hand, grimacing at the taste of blood in his mouth. Broken ribs hurt like a bitch, and the fact that he now knew he was bleeding internally made him once more doubt his chances of survival. At least now he knew what the mysterious pain below his ribs was. He wondered briefly if Yami was going to enjoy watching him die. Perhaps that was why the spirit stuck around? Casting such thoughts aside for the moment, he tried to speak again. "I want you to look after Mokuba for me. Just until he's old enough to fend for himself, you understand. He-he gets the company if anything happens to me; you'll be well paid." It was asking a lot, but he knew well enough that people would do anything for money, and Yugi was sickeningly nice; he'd do anything for Mokuba. He supposed it was lucky he'd met them all, really. If he hadn't, he'd have nobody to ask, and Mokuba would be alone. This was going to crush him as it was, Seto was his only family. But he felt some sense of relief knowing that it was Yugi and Yami who would be taking care of him, however much he hated them, he knew they could be trusted. Mokuba would be happy with Yugi, in that little game shop with Yugi's grandfather. The place always had such a welcoming atmosphere, the complete opposite of the Kaiba mansion, which was big and cold and lonely. Seto liked the way his mansion was; a vast silent emptiness where he could lose himself from everything, but it was no place for Mokuba. He was probably better off with Yugi and Yami. People who could laugh and smile and keep him safe... His thoughts began to dissolve into a mass of agony and his forehead creased into a frown, his jaw clamped shut to keep in the embarrassing whimpers of pain he knew wanted to worm their way from his throat. He wanted to sob, it hurt so much. He was bleeding inside, dying slowly... Nobody would find him, he was going to die here in the darkness and cold, and Yami would watch him... God, but it hurt like hell. "You are not going to die. You will see Mokuba again." Yami stated firmly, though which of them he was trying to convince was debatable. "Promise me!" Seto snarled out, his chest tight with the pain of trying to keep from breaking down long enough to get Yami to agree. "Swear you'll look after him. I-I need to know he'll be safe, you bastard!" He stammered slightly over a sob of agony and opened his glazed sapphire eyes a little, focussing the pain-hazed blue slits on Yami, who was watching him with a frown of concern from where he sat a few feet away. "I won't let you die down here." Yami insisted. Seto hissed. That idiot didn't understand. This wasn't about him, it was about Mokuba! He felt like he was going to pass out any moment from the pain, and he couldn't be sure he would wake up again. He had to know Mokuba would be taken care of. "I-I don't fucking care!!" He rasped, coughing into his hand. "I'm not going anywhere, look at this!" He lifted his hand weakly and showed Yami his palm, which was smeared with the blood he'd just coughed up. Yami's eyes widened a little and he froze. "You... You know what this means. A broken leg is the least of my worries. I'm coughing up blood, Yami! I'm not naïve or stupid enough to think that if I believe everything will be ok, and someone is going to burst in here any moment to rescue me! Get it through your head, I'm bleeding internally and it's getting worse, it hurts like a bitch and I'm going to die down here. I need to know that Mokuba will be taken care of, so stop telling me everything is going to be alright and just promise me you won't let anything happen to him!!" The blue-eyed executive snarled angrily, panting slightly from his outburst. He was in no condition to be shouting anything, but getting what he needed through to Yami was more important to him than the fact that he'd probably just severely shortened the time he had left. His entire lower ribs and stomach were a huge knot of burning agony that felt like molten metal had been poured over him. There was no blood on the outside other than what he'd coughed up, but he knew that he was bleeding heavily inside somewhere. He guessed one of his broken ribs had torn something, and now he was slowly bleeding to death. He felt so pathetically helpless. "Kaiba, I..." Yami whispered, his eyes wide, processing the new information. He'd though Seto's leg was his only injury, but now he knew differently. They didn't have as much time as he'd thought. "If that's what you want, you can trust Yugi and I to take care of Mokuba. I promise." The look of relief that washed over Seto's face almost bought Yami to tears. "Thank god..." The CEO whispered in a pained breath, not caring at this point what Yami thought of him. He let his head drop back to rest against the wall and his eyes slid closed again, each ragged breath making his lungs burn. The pain was actually lessening now. Everything was getting hazy, like he was moving further away and watching the whole thing play out objectively. He wasn't a fool, he knew what that meant. Fear was not something he liked admitting, even to himself, but right now, looking death in the face, even Seto Kaiba shuddered. He was glad he wasn't alone, even if it was Yami there with him. He realised almost laughingly that he hated Yami, yet barely knew anything about him other than the barest of facts about his life. He had been a pharaoh, he was a skilled duellist, he was Yugi's darker half, his spirit resided in the puzzle... "Talk to me..." Seto whispered, unable to make his voice sound any stronger than the ghost it was now. He needed to hear something. The silence was pressing in on him, and having Yami's voice as the last thing he would ever hear made him want to smirk, if he wasn't in such pain. "What?" Yami frowned, not sure he'd heard right. He'd been staring at Seto's handsome face, racking his mind for something he could do to help. Anything... "Speak. I don't care what you say, I just need something to concentrate on, other than..." He trailed off, both of them knowing what he meant. Anything other than the fact that he would soon die, because his insides were torn and bleeding, and he could barely move anymore. Yami moved closer, crawling over to sit against the wall right beside his rival, close enough to feel the feverish heat radiating from the CEO. Then he began to speak, all the random, unimportant little things he could think of to say that would take Seto away from where they were right now. "Your modern world fascinates me. Did you know that I once spent a whole hour clicking the end of a pen because I liked it so much? Yugi took it off me in the end." That bought the smallest hint of Kaiba's old amused smirk to his pale lips, and Yami took that as a sign to continue. "I love ice cream. We never had such things in Egypt, it is like snow, yet it tastes sweet. I do not like television, but I like to read books. I also do not like the telephone." This time Kaiba did smirk, albeit painfully. "I can not use the can opener, so whenever Yugi is not there to open tins for me I have a cupboard filled with instant ramen, which is all I can cook. It is cold here, compared to Egypt. I am always cold..." Yami said quietly, then looked away to the side. "I barely remember anything of my past. I know that I was the pharaoh, that I had many servants and the sun was always very hot. You were my priest back then." Seto gave a little shudder and opened his eyes slowly, shifting them to look at the spirit beside him. "I was, hmm?" He murmured tiredly. "I suppose I tried to take over the world, or something..." He gave a wry smile. "As a matter of fact, you did." Yami laughed softly. "How did you guess?" "It just sounds like something I would do." Seto breathed, his vision fading into blurred shadows. "It's funny," the CEO whispered, closing his eyes again so as not to have to see the distorted image of the dark little world he was trapped in. "I always thought I'd die in my sleep, old and rich and corrupt. I didn't think I'd die this young. I thought Mokuba would have time to grow up, and when I died he'd be old enough to deal with it. I'm trusting you to look after him, you know." Seto frowned slightly. "And if he ever gets hurt when you could have prevented it... so help me, death itself won't stop what I'll do to you." He growled out. "You think Bakura is an evil spirit, wait until you see me." Yami laughed softly. "You know I won't let anything happen to him. You talk as thought you've given up, there's still a chance they could find us, you know." The spirit insisted. "Not much of a chance." Seto replied, his voice getting weaker. It sent daggers of ice through Yami's heart to hear it. "That's still a chance. There will be rescue teams all over this mall, someone will find us." "I don't doubt it." Seto sighed. "I just doubt that I'll be alive when they do." It hurt... God, it hurt. He wanted to break down and cry, let out all the pain and fear and frustration at his helplessness. What a way to die. He'd always hoped it would be quick and painless. What he'd gotten was the complete opposite. "I won't let you die," Yami told him firmly, yet again. Although, just exactly what Yami was going to do that would keep him alive, Seto had no idea. "What happens... after you die?" Seto asked in a voice broken from pain. He'd never really been religious, but when one was so close to death, it was hard not to think about such things. "You've been through it, tell me." Yami sighed softly, staring off into the darkness of the other side of their little prison. "I don't know. I went straight to the puzzle. What do you think will happen?" The spirit asked, looking up at Seto, who had his eyes closed. "I don't know. Heaven seems a little too idealistic. I never was an optimist." He quirked his lips into what might almost have been a smile, were he not in so much pain. "In Egypt, it was believed that when a person died their heart was weighed against a feather, to see if they were worthy to enter heaven." Yami told Seto. "Then I should get in," Seto whispered. "My heart doesn't weigh anything at all." He gave a pained little cough and a little blood trickled from the corner of his mouth, but he was too weak to wipe it away. "Besides, no matter what you may think of me, I haven't been that bad a person. I could have been a lot worse." Seto said softly. "I may not be the most patient and kind person on the earth, but I've done the best I can." It was true, he mused. He wasn't worried about hell, or heaven. Somewhere in between was probably where he fit in. "I turned an arms corporation into a gaming company, that has to be worth something." He gave a soft laugh, opening his eyes again and looking over at the debris trapping them there. "I've been the best brother I could be to Mokuba. I wish... I wish I'd smiled at him a little more, though..." He shivered, his head spinning. He wondered if it was blood loss making him feel so dizzy. "He knows how much you love him." Yami said, kneeling up next to Seto to wipe the blood from his lips. "And you can smile at him again when you get out of here." Seto gave something between a laugh and a whimper of agony, trying to open his eyes again so he could look at the pharaoh leaning over him. "You're always so optimistic." He whispered. "One of us has to be," Yami replied, leaning a little closer to Seto's lips as the CEO watched him through pain-hazed eyes. "Beautiful, too..." Seto breathed, not really caring about hiding anything at that point. Yami had the most beautiful eyes, skin, hair... He was perfect. It was a nice feeling to know that Yami would be the last thing he would ever see. Yami heard those soft words and leant in, kissing Seto gently on the lips and trailing his fingertips down the brunette's pale throat. Seto let out a soft sigh, his eyes sliding closed and his trembling body relaxing as he passed out again, breathing in ragged gasps. Yami pulled back slowly, brushing some of the executive's silky hair from his face. "Live." The pharaoh whispered pleadingly, tears filling his eyes. * * * Part 3 * * * "Do you see anything?" A soft, English-accented voice woke Yami from his sleep next to Seto, and he sat up, staring wildly around the dark little room. Had he been imagining things? The light had gone out while he'd been asleep and Seto was still breathing, if only in shallow, ragged little gasps. Suddenly the voice rang out again, faintly. "Be careful, Bakura! Are you sure this is the right place?" "That's what the bloody ring says, isn't it?!" Another, deeper and more harsh voice replied to the first. Bakura. Trying to pretend he wasn't worried, by the sound of it. Yami almost jumped for joy right then. Instead, he ran over to where a stream of cold, grey daylight had been uncovered and called up to them. "Ryou? Bakura?" "Yami! Is that you? Hold on, we'll get you out in a moment!" Ryou's soft voice assured him, and Yami heard the sounds of Bakura starting to dig, while Ryou called out to Yugi and the others that Yami had been found. "Bakura! Tomb robber, are you up there?!" Yami called, listening to the scrabbling noises as more daylight was revealed, though he could see nothing yet. "Yes, I'm bloody here, who the hell did you expect?! I'm digging as fast as I can, you ungrateful bastard." Bakura growled, and Yami would have smirked if not for more pressing matters. "Bakura, you need to get someone to call an ambulance! Kaiba's here, he needs help!" The pharaoh called up out of the hole they were in. "Fine," Bakura said in his wicked-sounding voice, then yelled all of what Yami had just told him over to Yugi. A moment later Jounouchi, Ryou, Malik, Marik, Anzu, Mai, Shizuka, Honda and Otogi were all crowded around Bakura, helping the white-haired thief dig. "Yami...?" A weak whisper drew the pharaoh's attention and he crawled back beside Kaiba, stroking his hair gently. "Didn't I tell you they would come for us? Even Bakura and Marik are here. Just relax, Yugi is calling for an ambulance." Yami told the CEO, who wished he had the strength to open his eyes. How humiliating, being rescued by all those idiots... He wondered if the ambulance would make it in time. "I-Is Mokuba...?" He whispered faintly. "Wait a moment." Yami told him, then ran over to the widening hole in the roof which he could now see Mai through. "Mai!" He called, "Is Mokuba up there with you?" "Yeah," She called back, "he's doing fine, hun, tell Kaiba not to worry. We've been looking for you two for ages. I'll go tell Mokuba his brother's ok." She smiled, then left the others to finish digging and ran off to ensure Mokuba that his brother would be fine. A few moments later Mokuba's head came into view through the hole, his eyes red from crying. "Seto?" He called in a shaky voice, and Yami stood aside so that the boy could see his brother. "Mokuba..." Seto said in the strongest voice he could muster, somehow finding the strength to open his eyes and smile slightly. "Are you alright?" Mokuba looked down at him in disbelief. "You're asking me if *I'm* alright? Wait, the ambulance is here, big brother!" Mokuba called, then disappeared to drag the paramedics over to help his brother. Seto closed his eyes again with a sigh of relief. "Even the mutt is helping to dig me out of this damned hole. I'm honoured." Seto mocked, as Yami knelt beside him. "You can still joke, even in your condition." Yami smirked incredulously. "You never cease to amaze me." "Nor you me." Seto said, ignoring the sounds of everyone digging away the rocks and cement in the background. "You kissed me." He reminded the pharaoh. "I did." Yami agreed. "Perhaps I will visit you in your hospital room and do it again." Seto gave a shadow of one of his old smirks and closed his eyes. "Perhaps I will let you," he replied, listening to the comforting sound of Yami's deep chuckle in his ears as he waited for the paramedics to come and cart him off to the hospital. The End There, that was pointless and badly written, but at least I got it done in the end! It's longer than the stuff I usually write, and it took me ages since I'm so pathetically slow. It also had a few continuity problems that I tried to fix because I wrote the middle first, then the beginning, then the end. I know, it's screwed up. *shrug*
