FLASH FICTION:
In brief, flash fiction is a short
form of storytelling. Defining it by the number of words or sentences or even
pages required to tell a story, however, is impossible, for it differs from
writer to writer, editor to editor. Some purists insist that it is a complete
story told in less than 75 words; others claim 100 should be the maximum.
For less-rigid flashers, anything under 1,000 words can be considered flash-worthy.
And there are even a few who stretch their limits to 1,500 words.

"Unlike novels, short stories seem perfectible, but getting them
perfected is very frustrating. Novels are comfortable, large, forgiving
-- novels can have all sorts of structural inadequacies, but still be great
books. A story with that will be seen as some failed thing."

Keep in mind
the kind of story you’re telling.
Any story is about the relationship of an individual
to society. A comic story describes an isolated individual achieving
social integration either by being accepted into an existing society
or by forming his own. This integration is often symbolized by a wedding
or feast. A tragic story describes an integrated individual who becomes
isolated; death is simply a symbol of this isolation.
The plot should keep us in some degree of suspense about
what kind of story we’re reading. Even if we know it’s a comedy where
boy gets girl, the precise nature of the comic climax (how he succeeds)
should come as a surprise. If we know the hero is doomed, his downfall
should stem from a factor we know about but have not given sufficient weight
to.

The Story
Synopsis
The story synopsis
or outline can take many forms;
it has no rigid format. But the synopsis, like the manuscript, should
be double-spaced and highly legible, with frequent paragraphing.

favourite author. They are not looking to be entertained with unpleasant
graphics, flashing pointers and links to irrelevant eCommerce sites.
