A Star-- A tree-- A family ***
----------------------------------
.
.
There is a tree
burdening the weight
of many colors
the tree is proudly smiling
as the candle bulbs parch its needles
as the ornamental balls hook and droop
its arms in hold
There is a tree topped with a cardboard star
it was triangulated-- scribed and cut by Jamie
colorized with Angie's magic metallic dust
..shoved in an oven and baked on high for ten minutes
Cause curious Mathew was discovering
Sean modeled the star on his head and shrieked:
"I am a tree should I leave?"
the family giggled at this
even as the twins Alex and Nick
attempted to play boomerang
..the star went up
came down
it was tested
then rested as Kayla fell into toddlers slumber
cuddling the plaything
dreaming of shiny possibilities
Later we hoisted star to tree
and made merry
we were happy-- the tree was complete
as she nested the bowed boxes
and paper
I hoped not for the gifts to be great
nor stockings to be so fully stuffed
I desired the tree and the moment
to last
to stand upright and stay our family
forever.
