Downtown Molesto

In downtown Molesto
kids remove their sandwhiches from flappy plastic
they put the bread in crock pots with water
boiling down
resin for acid trips
pulling at jean labels for love notes
a corner off the Levi means "I love you"
a full tug is a call to whore
the doctors and lawyers have put in their time
so now adult hazing is a kiwanis lunch
where refined council women blow rib bones
while taxing suits for charity
'you just had a grandkid joe...
that'll be 100 bucks for you'
Joes's still smiling despite
Delicato automating
displacing
the downtown arch reads:
WATER WEALTH CONTENTMENT HEALTH
and for Joe it's just water
I am still boning Joes daughtor
and writing notes to supply the attendance lady.
.
In downtown Molesto
the half moon cafe stays open long after the loft
on J street
food is not a concern; we bring our own sack lunches
head to the parkway then climb the concrete for a cityskape
the sky is always clear here
there is too much light for Montana stars
the dust from the day still lingers and reflects
Joe's daughtor is in my lap
we can go to Moose park or sing crazy in the arena
but she is content
perhaps she'll go hooker hunting with me next
which is always fun
to see who made it and who didn't
our friends are talking about a midnight run to the real city
San Francisco
I think this is fine
but she snuggles into my leather jacket
inhales my body musk gathering
and she is content
.
I am rubbing her arms jostling my feet
the stored energy wants use
she is rested looking towards the Red Lion in neon
Pete's Pub is pulling out and the brewery smells drift toward us
I inhale the aroma
Joes daughtor wants to know If I have been to the library in a while
I smile at this
thinking about the skipping and the loving instead
'it reminds me of an old lady' she says sadly
the library?
'yes'
I am thinking about the mild mildew smells there
the fading white doric columns
a chalky box of books it is
'she's becoming a spinster-- ya know'
I remember the bust of Twain just then
it's a carving in the juvenile section
his face looks like a death mask sculptured in wood
under the bust is his full name: Samuel Clements
then a quote:
KEEP IT SIMPLE
I think of old lady library
dowtown molesto
and I am glad..
that she's not alone.
