| CAPITAL LETTERING You can capitalize your letters 2 ways: (1) Hit 'Capslock' which will thenTYPE ALL YOUR LETTERS IN UPPER CASE. (2) Hold down Shift and type the letter you wish to capitalize. Release Shift to continue typing in lower case. TYPING SYMBOLS Symbols can be found scattered all over the keyboard. Look at the row of numbers for example: ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 To type a number, simply hit that key. But to type @ for example, hold down Shift and hit the corresponding key. There are other symbols on the keyboard which can be typed either with or without holding down Shift. The rule is if the symbol you want to type is high, hold down shift. If it is low, do not hold Shift. COPY, CUT AND PASTE Copy and Paste or Cut and paste are very useful techniques to learn. Copying or cutting text and placing it into another document will save a lot of time. There is a subtle difference between copying and cutting text. Copy and Paste (1) Highlight the text you want to copy and right click on it and choose Copy (or you can hit Ctrl C or choose the copy option from the tool bar or Edit menu) (2) Place the cursor at the point where you want the text to appear (3) Right click and choose Paste (or you can hit Ctrl V or choose the paste option from the toolbar or Edit menu) (4) The text should remain in the old document AND appear in the new document (i.e. its been copied) Cut and Paste This technique is slightly different in that it removes the text from one place and pastes it into another place (i.e. it's been cut) (1) Highlight the text you want to cut and right click on it and choose Cut (or you can hit Ctrl X or choose cut from the tool bar or Edit menu) (2) Place the cursor at the point where you want the text to appear (3) Right click and choose Paste (or you can hit Ctrl V or choose the paste option from the toolbar or Edit menu) (4) The text should have been removed from the old document and placed into the new document. |
