It is the year 2038. A police state,
scheming politicians, religious sects, revolutionaries and a secret scientific
project all combines to produce an explosive mixture in Neo-Tokyo.
The rival groups all have their eyes on one prize: control of Akira, a boy
of such destructive psychic ability that he has been held in cryogenic "custody"
for over 30 years.
A coup is planned, but there is a wild card in play - the psychic Tetsuo,
an impetuous young biker - who releases Akira and so forces all the groups
to make their move. The result is massive destruction and the end of the
rule of law. The "Great Tokyo Empire" is created, headed by Akira but ruled
by Tetsuo.
Akira alarms the world with tremendous powers unknown to present-day mankind.
With their weapons and missiles useless the balance of power is threatened,
and so plans are made to "neutralize" the threat. But in the sprawling ruins
of Neo-Tokyo the outside world is forgotten as a prophecy is fulfilled and
individuals seek to settle private, deadly scores.
