SPARRING

First let me explain that sparring and real self defense are not the same thing. Sparring will help you prepare for getting hit, and help develope a killer instinct, but it is NOT the way you fight on the street. That said, sparring does have some validity.

Relax-Read & React
Watch for your opponents weakness, exploit his flaws and capitalize on his mistakes. Be quick, aggressive, and most importantly use 'mushin' the art of no mind. React instinctively through hard long practice. Every fighter tells a story, the way he moves, his favorite side, his favorite technique, he will show you how to defeat him. React naturally, do not force technique. Let it flow from you as naturally as you exhale.  when the time is right, make contact with your opponent, go through him, break him down, take control. Use combinations, explode with each one. Use both sides, counter off of attacks and blocks.Watch your range, keep covered and elbows down. Change stance and move, when in trouble NEVER put your hands down and turn your back. Fight your way out...... Watch your timing and dont waste energy by kicking and striking air. Keep consistant, use techniques like draw, trap, and fake. Fight well!!!

Remember to stretch completely before sparring, wear proper protective equipment, and use control. Stay mentally focused and learn from your mistakes. Also keep no grudges, its just a game of tag, not the real deal.
