With 13 original albums and 35 singles, plus mini-albums, and compilation
albums, it takes a while to listen through everything B'z! Luckily, it's always
a pleasure, and with so many excellent songs, fans are always rediscvering numbers. I've done my best to ensure as much accuracy and information as possible here, since, ultimately, this is what B'z are about. I've added a few notes throughout ~ hopefully this helps round out the picture.

dominated the charts for a while.

Hours later...It's amazing how many wonderful songs B'z have though. At this
point I also want to ask Koshi what determines whether a song title is in
all capital letters or not!
Quick note: B'z have released their concerts in DVD format only since 2001.
This included re-releases of their VHS videos on DVD. The DVD versions each
have a couple of bonus tracks not on the VHS versions. And I'll tell you a
secret: even though the DVD packaging says Region 2, and even though stores
list them as Region 2...the B'z concert DVDs so far have all been region-free.
Regrettably, B'z are not in the habit of releasing many concert videos, and
many great tours remain in Tak's vaults!
If only they would release The 9th Blues, SURVIVE, spirit loose! Since it
will take me a long-azz time to review these videos, I've added nutshells
in boxes under each one for now.

KIDS RHAPSODY CAMDEN LOCK STYLE 8. Itoshii Hitoyo Good Night
This is one of my favorites, but I would not recommend it to anyone
as their first B'z video. This is old school 80s style B'z, and the outfits
are kind of...not cool, and Tak is doing a lot of posing while young Koshi
earnestly does the most awful dancing in public. This is not a concert,
but kind of a series of music videos set in New York and London. With
that said, I find this video hilariously entertaining and the sincerity
and focus of the performances certainly still accompany the B'z of today.
Don't miss HOT FASHION and Easy Come, Easy Go! as well as Guitar Kids,
where a small London boy sells B'z cassettes in the street, follows his
idol Tak around, and UK firefighters shout "Hold On!" to the
chorus.

This is still the old school B'z era. This is an indoor concert video
and the gang have a lot of fun. To be honest, I don't watch it that much.
SAFETY LOVE is my favorite track, and of course Yoko Hiromoto is great.

This is an outdoor concert at Nagisa-en (the same setting for Typhoon
No. 15, 10 years later). It contains some hotpants wearing, only they
look ok, and some scenes are annoyingly black and white with only certain
things in color for an arty effect. But, it's a great concert and you
can see how much B'z have changed since Just Another Life and are evolving
still. I especially love Native Dance, Gekkou, Sayonara, and Stay Tonight.
This is also my favorite version of ZERO.

My favorite ~ if you haven't ever watched any B'z videos, you can't
go wrong with this one. An uncut concert as sleek and magnificent as
B'z. There are no backstage scenes, but the perfection and intensity
of the performances will grab all of your attention. Due perhaps to
the setlist, this one is a bit more serious than the other videos. I
love every track. And Tokumade is a rare and beautiful performance
of a Koshi solo song, while Go Further is one of Tak's best.

Another terrific video (they all seem to be...). Easygoing and energetic,
with the best backstage scenes of all. Tak has a great solo number, the
acoustic Hadashi and Koi Gokoro lend a sweet nostalgic touch, and songs
like ultra soul and juice have the crowd rocking out as gleefully as B'z.

FANCLUB ONLY
1998 B'z OFFICIAL BOOTLEG
This was a free present mailed out to B'z fans in honor of B'z 10th
anniversary. It is a little over an hour in length and is surely one of
B'z most entertaining and insightful videos. There are clips from all
their Live-Gyms, many never released, and behind the scenes looks at music
video shoots and studio recordings. Tak and Koshi sit on a couch and observe,
analyze, and laugh at the footage of themselves. This video includes everything
from hotpants and Takmullets to B'z modern sexy cool. Some of my favorite
moments: Young Koshi's atrocious but enthusiastic dancing, which 1998
Tak bursts out laughing at; Koshi about to fall off the couch from laughing
at footage of Tak wimping out under the fake rain for the Calling PV;
the making of the Deep Kiss PV; Koshi's ordeal dressing up as Love Phantom;
rare footage from The 9th Blues and SURVIVE tours; all the different kinds
of mind boggling concert outfits; and just seeing how old school B'z gradually
changed. Great overview.
TV ONLY
December 2002 Rock N' California Roll Documentary
B'z had their first North American concerts in 2002, in Los Angeles
and San Diego. This is basically the Los Angeles show, interspersed with
backstage scenes, B'z interviews, and fan interviews. It ends with the
Rock N' Cali Roll concert in Tokyo, and Shane and Billy saying goodbye
(but Shane is still around!). The arena rock kings perform splendidly
in small club venues.
December 2003 Banzai in North America Documentary
B'z came back to North America and embarked on a 6 show West Coast tour,
hitting Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, and Vancouver.
Again, the concert footage is taken mostly from the LA show, with clips
from the other venues, some history about the venues, B'z comments, fan
comments (fewer than in Cali Roll), and rehearsal and backstage clips.
B'z first photobook released outside of B'z Party. Actually it's more
like a tourbook, packed with page after page of glossy photos capturing
moments from 15 years of concerts. Some of them are on this site.
B'z LIVE-OFF- 1988~ 2003 December 2003 . FANCLUB ONLY (FREE)
Remember how when B'z 10th anniversary rolled around, they gave all their
fans a free video? Well, LIVE-OFF- is their gift to fans on occasion of
their 15th anniversary, and it's another generous one, too! LIVE-OFF- complements
LIVE-ON- by providing page after glossy page of photos capturing B'z backstage
over 15 years. It's just as thick and high quality as LIVE-ON-, which cost
3800 yen, so you can imagine what money went into providing this gift for
the largest fanclub in Japan. The pair of books (ON and OFF) are exceedingly
charming, but then again, they are my favorite band...
Band scores
There are band scores available for almost every album, though I'm not absolutely
positive about which specific ones. The ones I've seen are SURVIVE and BIG MACHINE.
You can try to buy them online at stores like www.jamall.com, or perhaps order
them through your local Asahiya or Kinokuniya bookstore, if you have one near.
CDs
4.26.1997: Flashback - B'z Early Special Special Titles
This compilation album was released by B'z old label BMG. It has 2 discs,
24 tracks, and includes songs from their first 4 albums. I've been told
it's a better choice to simply purchase the 4 albums yourself (they're quite
cheap used), as the packaging and quality of this set is mediocre. And so
I'm not listing the tracks here.

I also have 2 piano versions of Blowin' and Lady Navigation, done in a jazz
style. I don't know which albums these are from, but they're really terrific.
If anyone comes across the source, please let me know?
Finally, there is W-Nao. There is a special W-nao section on this
site here.
STUFF THAT DOESN'T FIT INTO B'Z OR TAK AND KOSHI SOLO
WORKS
These are random extras that are hard to find. They include early early works
and collaborations. There are so many (especially for Tak) that I'm not going
to list them all. In my notes, I'll indicate the ones I've managed to listen
to and think are worth checking out. For full album listings and exhaustive
documentation, please look at this excellent Japanese site. Click
here! (opens in new window).
KOSHI: OTHER STUFF
1995.01.19 J-BLUES BATTLE Vol. 1
Koshi sings TRAMP, track 6. It's all in English and Koshi works
it. It's sexy and kind of funny. So try to find it! "Grandma was! Grandpa
too..."
1995 Don't Ask Me, Baby (Tak's demo for The Changing)
I actually like this a lot more than The Changing. The lyrics, written
by Kosh for Tak, hilariously depict a beer guzzling man with bad coping
skills when it comes to crying women. Koshi sings backup. It's great ~ you
can clearly hear him chiming in with Tak, who belts out the song with gusto.
1999.12.22 Next 100 years/J-FRIENDS
J-Friends are a group composed of Johnny's (KinKi Kids, Tokio, V6) who
released stuff for charity. Koshi wrote the lyrics for their single Next
100 Years. Melody by Bon Jovi. Who would have thought Koshi would write
lyrics for Johnnys? There is also a poor quality mp3 of Koshi singing this
song floating around somewhere, which I put on repeat a lot. Now I have
the J-Friends one. I like this song. :P
11.21.1989 DANCE TO THE CHRISTMAS CAROL PLAYERS POLE POSITION Vol.3 (BMG)
Koshi sang track 4: "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus," and
track 8 -- "Santa Claus is Coming to Town." I've never heard the latter,
but there is an mp3 of I Saw Mommy online. Yes! It contains rapping!
11.30.1984 BURNING album (Matsukawa RAN ??, EMI label)
He participated under the name Mr. Crazy Tiger on all the tracks.
I think he was a backup vocalist but not 100% sure. This is 20 yr. old Koshi
doing occasional studio work pre-B'z, while he was a student at Yokohama
University.
4.20.1985 METAL VERSION album (Megumi Hayakawa, EMI label)
He was in the chorus for tracks 2 and 4 (Goodbye T'Jane and I Wanna Rock).
Again, work done during his university days. Note that Tak worked on the
same album (see his section below), but I don't think they were acquainted
with each other at that point yet. Remember the story goes that a colleague
of Tak's later mentioned Koshi's name when Tak was looking for a vocalist,
and colleague knew Koshi because he'd done a bit of studio work.
11.21.1988 FEEL ME album (Maeda Nobuteru (TUBE), Sony label)
Koshi composed 2 songs on this album: Feel Me, Touch Me (track
5) and LONESOME TOWN (track 6). And yet it's not till 1997 that he releases
his first solo album and reveals his skills.
01.21.1989 DANGER album (Blizard, Sony label)
06.21.1989 Players Pole Position Vol. 2 Surfin' U.S.A. (BMG)
Koshi sang track 8, "I GET AROUND." Yeah, I bet he did.
11.21.1989 Tough Banana (Platz)
Koshi participated in the chorus for:
Track 3. L'esprit d'Afrique, 5. Crashin' Over You 6. J'en ai mare 7. Ca
va pas, and 10. Silver Machine.
1990.03.21 Loving You/Tsubokura Yuiko
Chorus for track 2, Shooting Star. Lyricist for track 4, Heaven in My
Heart
Yuiko has shown up in B'z CDs a few times since, as a part of the background
chorus in some songs.
. TAK : OTHER STUFF (Highlights only; for complete list please click here
)
9.26.2002 KISS IN THE SKY/MISIA
Tak composed track 5 (Koi Uta) and track 6 (Don't Stop Music!). He played
guitar for both. In addition, he and Akihito Tokunaga (does that ring a
bell?) arranged those 2 tracks. Koi Uta is track 1 in Tak's own solo album
Hana, but MISIA's version has vocals, of course.
11.25.1997 Guitar Monster vol. 2
Performed track 7, Romeo and Juliet ~ What is a youth~ . Romeo and Juliet
makes another appearance in Tak's solo album Hana, but I don't know
how different it is, as I don't have Guitar Monster.
5.21.1997 Koi wa mai oriru/Nanao Kaori (ZAIN)
Tak wrote both songs for this single, played guitar, and co-arranged with
Akihito Tokunaga (frequent Tak prisoner, I mean collaborator, and B'z bassist
behind the scenes). He doesn't often compose for other artists, does he?
8.20.1997 Iinjyanai!!/Nanao Kaori
Tak wrote Iinjyanai!! and the c/w song Be All Right, played guitar, and
co-arranged with Tokunaga.
12.03.1997 Mineral single/Nanao Kaori
Tak composed both songs for this single, guitar, co-arrange with Toku-chan.
My gosh, Tak spent all of 1997 writing songs for this woman. Who is she??
1.28.1998 Seven Sounds/Nanao Kaori
Tak composed all 7 songs on this mini-album (includes most of singles
above), played guitar, and co-arranged with Toku-chan.
01.20.2000 FXXXED UP!/Kuni
Tak played guitar on track 3 (Cybernation Jam) and track 6 (Mystify Guitars).
I list this because some of you hardcore fans may remember Kuni as a long-time
B'z staff member, who was in a Beautiful Reel and Cali Roll ~ the guy with
red/green hair who speaks English fluently.
12.22.2002 Q/Yamamoto ??
Tak produced, composed, and played guitar on track 4, CAESAR'S SORROW.
11.07.1990 Early Takes (VICTOR)
Tak performed on the first 4 tracks: Touch Operation, Deadline, Storm
Belt, Falling Tide. The other person on this cd is someone called Kenji
Kitajima. I don't know if this is the same Touch Operation that appears
on Tak's first solo album Thousand Wave. Maybe!
12.9.1989 Digitalian is eating breakfast/Tetsuya Komuro (Epic/Sony)
Tak on guitar for 4. I want you back 5. Gravity of Love 9. Running to
Horizon. TK was part of TM Network, and was behind a lot of idols, including
Namie Amuro, for whom he wrote the techno tracks that became massively successful
in the 90s.
1989 Player's Pole Position (BMG)
Tak plays guitar on: Track 1 It's My Treat/ Track 4 Mixed Up Track 9 Wait
Forever
12.9.1988 Carol A Day in a Girl's Life 1991/TM Network (Epic/Sony)
Tak on guitar for 2. Carol 3. Chase in Labyrinth 5. Come On Everybody
11. Carol's Theme II 12. Just one Victory
Just one of a few TMN CDs Tak worked on. Tak also toured with them, though
he stood mostly in the back. ^^:
4.20.1985 METAL VERSION album (Megumi Hayakawa, EMI label)
Guitar on C'mon and Love Me, Goodbye, Sons and Lovers, and I Wanna Rock
(Koshi was bg in this one).
8.21.1983 Four Seasons/Naomi Akimoto
Tak played guitar on 2, 3, 6, 7, and 8 (Dance Shall We Dance, He's so
trendy, Bad Imagination, Honey Bee, and Jinx)
1. Reiketsu 2. Kuchibiru 3. So no Switch wo ose 4. Nami 5. Nemurenai no

Conan soundtrack as well.
2nd maxi single 6.11.03 [KI]
1. AKATSUKI 2. Shizuka no ame 3. AKATSUKI Version S.S.S. 4. I'm on Fire
5. AKATSUKI Version 0
Akatsuki was the theme song for the K-1 sports show on TV.
And I know this isn't the reviews section, but every one of Koshi's solo works
is worth getting.
That was the easy part, now for Tak. :P
