- Kim, tell us a little about yourself:
I am Katie's Mom. That has been my role for the past 20 years and I have
enjoyed every second of it (well there may have been a few hours there that I
didn't enjoy, but all in all I would do it all over again). Aside from
keeping track of Katie, I have worked in the Human Services Department for
the City of Spokane for the last 8 years. I work with non-profits that deal
with homeless individuals and I manage one of eight homeless databases in the
United States. Homelessness may always be around, but I know that what I do
helps our Spokane agencies gain funding that otherwise they may not get.
That helps a lot homeless families.
- Kim, tell us a little about Dan:
Well, in this next question Dan, my future son-in-law, asked me to relate my
first impression on him. Boy, is that a loaded question or what and right
before Christmas too. It is hard to remember my first impression because
they have been together for 5 years and as I get older my memory fades, ha
ha. But I do remember the excitement when Katie came home that October
afternoon and told me that she was invited to go over to Dan's house for a party. She had had her eye on him and I knew she was interested in
him. I had met Dan and his family several times before because Jason was in
choir with Dan and his sister Kim. Katie talked so much of how
cute Dan was and I had to agree, he is cute and has a real special charm.
But I think the thing that impresses me the most is how mature and
responsible Dan was then and is now. When the time came for them to talk about
marriage, it came easy for me. Together they work things out, they have good
communication and each of them let the other one be themselves. Dan has
helped Katie grow and develop into the adult that she is and that was very
important to me. I also knew they were meant together the first time I saw
them sing together in the same choir. They had the same facial statements,
they both wrinkle their forehead the same way, their love is destiny.
- Kim, tell us about Dan and Katie as a couple:
Dan and Katie as a couple will be journalist and
photo-editor (while doing African safaris as well). I kid them by saying
that they will run a mom and pop newspaper in some small town, and be loved
by all. They say no to this notion, but I see them someday within the same
sort of little town that they put up during the Christmas season. That
little town where they can raise their four children, feel comfortable within
the community church and have friends that last forever. This scenario will
probably truly not happen, but I hope that the love they have now will always
be with them in good times and in bad. I also hope they will always know how
much their families will always love them.
- Kim, tell us a little about the wedding:

- Okay, it's your forum - have at it:
Tom and I have always been proud of Katie and Dan. When Tom walks Katie
down that isle we will see a beautiful young lady who is going to marry a
handsome young man. Our job will seem over, but we know deep down that it is
not, because as long as we are here on earth we will be there for both of
them. It is a new beginning for them and I guess ending for us. With tears
in our eyes we will let our daughter go, but she will go into the arms of
another one who loves her deeply and with that knowledge I will have a smile
in my heart.
