1. AIKIDO SHODOKAN OF KENJI TOMIKI SHIHAN Morihei Ueshiba Osensei (1883 - 1969) founded the Aikido after studying the old styles of Jujitsu as well as other arts, specially Daitu-ryu Aiki Jujitsu. Kenji Tomiki Shihan (1900 - 1979) was one of its more excellent disciples, being the first a the one that granted 8º Dan. Tomiki Shihan began in 1926 its practice of Aikido. In that time he was already consecrated judoka (5º Dan) formed by Jigoro Kano in his art of the Judo and to that would help to establish the Kodokan and the present principles of the training. It was indeed the influence of the Judo which took to Tomiki Shihan to reframe the form of education and practice of the Aikido formulating between 1959 and 1960 its principle of the free practice (Aikido-Randori). For the development of this principle one leaned in the Waseda - Bu, dojo of Judo of the University of Waseda where it gave class. Despite the aspiration of Tomiki Shihan it was to count exclusively on dojo for the Aikido and opened to everybody and not only to the college students. Thus in 1967 it established the Shodokan Hombu Dojo, as dojo main of the Aikido of the same form that the Kodokan Dojo was it of the Judo of the Kano teacher. The Shodokan was established thanks to the patronage of Mr. Masaharu Uchiyama, President of the Real estate Society Showa Tachi Tatemono and in addition Vice-president to the Japan Aikido Association, the association created by Tomiki Shihan for the promotion of its style of Aikido. In 1970 Tomiki Shihan it decides that Tetsuro Nariyama Sensei is gotten up like instructor of the Shodokan Hombu Dojo of Osaka once it has finalized his university studies. In 1975 Mr. Uchiyama collaborates again in the creation of a new Shodokan with 70 tatamis that replaces the old one. To the aim in 1988 the Shodokan Hombu present with 100 is inaugurated tatamis and located Dojo in Osaka in a modern building of 5 plants. Continuous under the direction of Tetsuro Nariyama Shihan (8º Dan Shodokan, 5º Dan Aikikai). At the moment the practice promoted from this Dojo knows like Aikido Shodokan, extending therefore the name of Tomiki Shihan in the same way that the Judo Kodokan rose over the name of the Kano teacher. 3. The COMPETITION (SHIAI) In 1964 Tomiki Shihan established the foundations of the competition (Shiai) of Aikido. Its idea was to introduce an incentive for the practice, specially between the young people, the hope of which they ended with time perceiving the true spirit of the Aikido. This decision carried numerous critics to him and was prohibited in certain scopes of the most traditional Aikido. Peculiarly the aid of a great teacher of the Aikikai, Hirozaku Kobayashi Shihan, of the region of Kansei, was decisive in the restoration of the competition in the Aikido. Kobayashi Shihan promoted the organization of courses of Aikido-Randori between its students of the universities of its region. Thus in 1970 the first competition of Aikido between different universities is made. In 1989 it was celebrated in Nara (Japan) the First Festival and Championship the International of Aikido Tomiki. In 1997 the Third Festival in Imabari was celebrated (Japan) Is predicted that in 1999 the Fourth Festival in Brisbane City is celebrated Hall (Australia, from the 1 to the 5 of August).
