Kokomo, 55-------Harrison, 41

We started off the season with a group of ladies that gave us a great season last year plus some very promising freshmen. It took a little while to really get going but some of the experience came out in spurts and our ladykats took this one by a score of  55 to 41. There is leadership from both the guard and the forward positions. We are going to really enjoy this group of young ladies as they show us how to play the game. Go Lady Wildkats.

Noblesville (There}

Noblesville 47 Kokomo 41

The weather turned chilly today, and our Ladykats took their show on the road for a game at Noblesville. Turns out that our LadyKats took a little of that chillyness with them as they started off warm and then the temperature dropped in the second half. To say that we were cold really doesn't tell the whole story. we just broke down, bottom line. We lost by the score of 47 to 41, but we will learn from this loss. To find out how good we are, we must find out how bad we are and then change our game in the positive way. We are young, but we are the Kokomo LadyKats and we will overcome this and look for lots of better games this year. This team has the guts to make this season a great one. Don't give up on them. Go LadyKats.

Lafayette Jeff (There)

Kokomo 49 Jeff 43.

Our LadyKats took there game to Lafayette Jeff on this night. They were down early in the game but used great spurts to take out the Broncos early. When Jeff made a run, our LadyKats were able to respond. A 24 to 8 run in the first half sort of made the game in our favor. Great rebounding and gutty shooting turned this game too. Once again it was a team effort . Great game LadyKats.

Kokomo 45 McCutcheon 25

McCutcheon came to town to take on our LadyKats on this Saturday evening. As is their style of ball playing, they played their game on the outside of the periemter looking for that three pointer and taking time off the clock. In the opening minutes Kokomo was called for lane violation 3 times, yet McCutcheon wasn't able to capitalize on them. Kokomo took charge and led this game through out, finally taking it 45 to 25. defense was the name of this game as our LadyKats stood their ground and scored on the mistakes of their opponent. Some great work inside under the basket and great ball handling by our guards sort of sealed this game for us. Another team effort by all. Great show my ladies. Keep it up.

Anderson (There)
Anderson 40 Kokomo 37
The LadyKats went to Anderson to play their game and they were hit with their first loss in the NCC since January of 2000. When you have a winning streak like this one where you dominated the sport, you have to realize that a loss is right around the corner. We lost this game by a score of 40 to 37, and there clearly was no dominance by our LadyKats. Now we look on the bright side and we will work harder and we will improve and sometimes a loss wakes you up and makes you better. So don't get down with this. Get up with it and start that winning streak all over again. Go LadyKats.

Kokomo LadyKats dug themselves a deep hole tonight falling behind The Royals 23 to 5, before they found their game and then it was too late . Even with good trapping defeKnse and gutsy play, we were not able to close the gap. we did close to a 9 point deficit, but the door once again closed, and we are now 3 & 3 for the season. Will we rebound? Oh yes but it will take a great team effort with the need for screening has to be addressed, and the rebounding has to improve. It might be a long season but it will have to be a learning one. Lots of young ladies on the team and the future could be a lot better. Go get them, LadyKats, you haven't knocked me off your ladder. I am hanging on for a rough ride.

Huntington North (There)

Huntington North 52 Kokomo 47
Kokomo took a ride to Huntington to play ball but they had their trip ruined by Huntington who gave our ladies another slow trip back home on the losing end of the score. For the first time in a long time we find our ladies on a losing streak they can't shake. Something is wrong and the coach just doesn't seem to see where the problem is. We have a group of good ladies playing their game the way that the new coach wants them to and it is this fan's feeling that we should play the way that they have been trained to play. We hope that they can get back on the right track against a very good Western team next. Don't give up my ladies, just get up to the next game and play the game the way you know it is supposed to be played. The Day Brothers haven't given up on you. We are with you for the complete ride. Go LadyKats.

Western (There)

Kokomo 63- Western 38

Our LadyKats went on a mission to just west of us to play the undefeated Western Ladies, and they took charge right away and never looked back. Using a box and 1 defense, they handled both the inside game and the outside game of Western. Great shooting, great defense, and all around team play was the recipe for this basketball cookout at Western. The ladies are doing their thing once again and they are gearing up for a NCC games this Friday. Keep up the challenge and bring home the rewards. Go LadyKats.

Marion (There)

Kokomo 44- Marion 35

The Ladies took their game to Marion where they were the 1st half of a boys/girls doubleheader and they started the night off in a winning way. They had a little problem with Marion's big girl in the first half but contained her in the second half. Some good shooting plus some great defense in that second half helped our ladies to bring home the win.The ladykats are playing team ball, looking for the open lady, and they are using their defense to score points. Another great job by the LadyKats. Go Ladykats.

Dec. 14, 2004
Carmel (There)
Carmel 60 --Kokomo 42

Well a trip south to Carmel didn't do the LadyKats any good as they were as cold as the weather. A very dismal 1st quarter where kokomo only scored 2 points was the way this whole night turned out. A little help off the bench in the 2nd quater sort of gave us the idea that Kokomo was ready to make a run but in the 3rd quarter bad defense did not help the situation as Carmel went up by 22 points. kokomo got it back to a 11 point deficit but from there on it was get this game over, go home, try to find out what went wrong and be ready to salvage the rest of the season. Don't worry my ladies, the Day brothers are still on the bandwagon and if we just finish the rest of the season on the up side, we might be ready for the touranment. Go Ladykays.

New Castle (There)
Kokomo 57 New Castle 36

After a long break, the Kokomo Ladies got back into action with a long trip to New Castle. They came away with a great victory using that unselfish teamwork and not creating too many turnovers. Our ladies were able to cause New Castle to have 21 turnovers, which most of the time will create points for us. A long bus ride, plus an unselfish team, plus desire to win, brought the LadyKats a big NCC victory by the score of 57 to 36. Another job well done.

Kokomo 64 Peru 28

Well, we finally were able to get this game in, as bad weather played it's role in getting it poseponed. This game started out like both teams were still full of holiday cooking, and not loose enough to set up plays without turnovers. The first quarter was full of turnovers mostly on Peru's side, but kokomo had several too. Once the LadyKats got started, Peru was never in the game. Good defense plus good offense brought this game Kokomo's way by a final score of 64 to 28. And although this writer tries not to single out one player because the name of our game is teamwork, I have to say that Kokomo has a small guard that is going to make a lot of us proud in this and the next three years. Great job my LadyKats, now go to Chigago and play some great basketball.

Chicagoland Classic
Kokomo 51 Nequa Valley 40

The LadyKats took their game to Chicago in the Chicagoland Classic, and they put on a good show with the team playing Nequa Valley. Our ladies led the whole game as Nequa Valley stayed within reach, but in the end it was Kokomo winning this game by a score of 51 to 40. Kokomo continues to use teamwork in their game and they look for the open player and then are ready to rebound the shot if missed. We have some great shooters on this team but they still use teamwork as the name of the game. Go LadyKats.

Jan. 15,2005
Chicagoland Classic
Kokomo 33 Bishop McNamara 30

Our LadyKats were trying to make a sweep in the Chicagoland Classic against Bishop McNamara, and they started out getting themselves in a deep hole, by not hitting any shots from the field and finished up the 1st quarter behind by a score of 9 to 1. Sounds bad don't it? But our LadyKats are not going to ly down and get mauled by anyone. They were able to use some great defense and some great shooting of the 3 ball and they were able to go on top in the last 34 seconds with a 3 pointer and a free throw to come out the victors here by a score of 33 to 30.. Today's game will help this team as it proves that you can't give up and you have to have that desire to come back under the worst conditions. This was a great trip to Chicago for the team and they showed that they are a great team. Great job, my Ladies. Go LadyKats.

Logansport (Here)
Kokomo 73 Logansport 30
It was very cold outside on this January evening, but inside Memorial Gym, it started heating up as the Kokomo LadyKats took the floor against Lagansport. On this night the shooting of the LadyKats, plus their defense put the Logansport Ladies in a hole right away. A good solid scoring combined with a solid defense almost made this game a perfect one, as our LadyKats wanted to prove to their fans and others in this state that they are for real and that they know that with time they will be that dominating team come sectional time. The final score on this night was 73 to 30, with several girls in the double figures. What can a fan say about this team? They can say that they have fun watching our LadyKats play ball and that they will be there to cheer them to victory the next time they play. I have to say that when you look out through the crowd, you see many fans who have been coming to the games for many years. You keep coming, the Ladies will keep playing that great team ball, and it will be fun at the old ballgame. Go LadyKats.

Muncie Central (There)
KOkomo 55 Muncie Central 40

On another cold day, it took the Kokomo LadyKats to warm the building up as they went to Muncie Central to play in another important NCC game. Muncie was having no problem driving to the basket in the first quarter until our ladies decided to cut off their driving lanes. From there on Kokomo had control of their game. There was some great play coming off the bench and of course the starting five held their own in winning this game. The final score was 55 to 40. Great balance in scoring, great play from the bench, and great defense was the name of this game today. The team is really coming together at the right time. Go LadyKats.

Frankfort (Home)
Kokomo 55 Frankfort 37

With our ladies playing at home here in Memorial Gym, we sat there in our seats ready to watch them play their game of teamwork, defense, and good shot selection. It wasn't too far into the game that we were hit with 2 fouls on our big gals, and coach had to substitute early. For just a little while this slowed our game down and Frankfort had a 9 to 2 lead on us. But as all good tems do, they adjusted with great defense, and the LadyKats went on to a 27 to 3 run that sort of spelled out the ending for Frankfort, as they just couldn't get back in the flow. Kokomo won this one by a score of 55 to 37. Great work off the bench, and just never die attitude on the floor, was the name of this game which turned out to be fun to watch. While sitting there in my seat Mrs. Hendrixs, who has really contributed to the girls program via her daughters , came by and we had a good chat about how her daughters were doing. She is one nice lady. Well, we will get ready to play Richmond Saturday in a NCC game. We are hoping for the win and more of the fun of watching LadyKat basketball. Go LadyKats.

Richmond (Home)
Kokomo 64 Richmond 44

This was an afternoon game with Richmond who wanted to start early and leave early due to bad weather outside. Well first ,they had to be the opponent of The Kokomo Lady Wildkats, and it didn't take too long before Richmond was really itching to get it over with and go home. Our Ladies used that team consept with the use of a lot of players off the bench to score 8 points at the end of the half and the first 5 in the second half to swallow up the Red Devils and to send them on that long road back home. As always, we try not to single out any one player who had a great game, because we want our games to be played and won with a team attitude. The seniors got to play in this their final home game, and they did good. Our Ladies won this one by a score of 64 to 44, giving them 2nd place in the NCC. Great play on both ends of the court and that unselfish attitude were the heart of this day of playing basketball. Great game by all and we will try to fix up a tribute to those two seniors by the end of the season.

North Central (There)
Kokomo 31 North Central 24
Another cold evening as our Ladies made the trip down to North Central to play their final game of the season before going into the sectionals. It was cold outside and really cold inside as both teams found points not easily made. North Central got off to a 6 to 0 run, and everything our ladies put up was either short or way off the mark as the big girl for North Central stayed around the basket and she blocked at least 6 shots. But Kokomo finally started getting the ball to the shooter in position, and the ball started dropping into that little round hole. Most will say that the presense of the big girl sort of intimidated our girls, but I think that they just had that one bad night of shooting until they got their bearings and from there , it was Kokomo being the intimidater, and they found Little Mac in position to deliver the win tonight. Kokomo won this by the score of 31 to 24. We sat on the edge of our seats tonight, but then that is Indiana High School basketball.

"IHSAA CLASS 4A SECTIONAL AT HARRISON"
KOKOMO & McCUTCHEON
Man, this game started out like it was going to be the lowest scoring game in history, as our ladies from Kokomo put up 10 shots, all of them missing the hole in the basket. Kokomo was behind 6 to 5 at the 1st quarter break. If it wasn't for the Kokomo defense which sort of took the Mavs out of their game. It was 22 to 14 at the half and they had to wake some of the crowd up as the eyes were dropping bettter than the shots. But Kokomo came out in the 3rd quarter, and they used their defense to shake the Mavs up and then they went to work and at one time was leading by 17 points. This game ended with our LadyKats on the winning end of a 41 to 30 score. Boy, we haven't had such a bad night since the Carmel game. But this is the Kokomo LadyKats we are addressing and they do have the stuff to put a team away if their game is right. Now we take on Lafayette Friday night. Lets go my ladies, show your stuff.
{At this point, I am wondering why our coach didn't call time out and set up the defense that had broken down, but then that is his right and we live with it}. The game stayed close the rest of the night as our ladies had to go into overtime to win this game decided by a free throw made and a great rebound of a missed free throw to wind out the time left. Kokomo took this one by the score of 51 to 50, and will face Harrison in the championship game
KOKOMO & HARRISON
Well, just as it seems we have our bearings on straight, and the flu out of the bodies of our ladies ,up it comes again, as we took on Harrison for the championship of the Harrison sectional. Harrison took us to the bank early as they put on a great defense along with some lucky shots, and with the help of the officials, {I wish that referees would watch the feet of the player instead of the head, as they always call traveling on those plays , They think that if the head moves it is a travel. The referee is just out head-faked}, well anyway, Harrison thought they could win this game and they played to win. Our ladies were still showing the effects of their sickness this week and with the legs tired and the reactions slowed down, rebounding was terrible and Harrison scored off our misses. But then in the 4th quarter with us down by 9 points, the ladies that we love so much decided that we lose and season is over. We win and we go on to play another day. With sheer guts and determination, the five on the floor with the bench and the fans behind them, made a miracle comeback to win this game 36 to 32. That gives us a berth in Huntington going against Anderson in the 2nd game. Boy, you gotta believe. Thank's, LadyKats for making the long drive home a good one.

THEHUNTINGTON REGIONAL
  2-19-2005

KOKOMO & ANDERSON

The LadyKats lost their earlier meeting between these 2 schools and they weren't going to let it happen again as they used a very aggressive defense to hold down the high scorers on the Anderson team.  They used the 3 point shot to build their offense and although Anderson tried to come back in the 3rd quarter, our ladies had enough steam to shut them down. Great defense, great shooting and determination not to lose took our ladies to victory by the score of 60 to 50. Our ladies will take on Huntington in the championship game.

KOKOMO & HUNTINGTON NORTH

Our LadyKats went into this game just as they did in the afternoon game determined not to lose and to avenge a regular season loss to Huntington. They did that but not without trailing Huntington until the final quarter when our "LITTLE MAC" took over with some nice set-ups from the other members of the team. I usually won't signal out any one player but tonight it was some great shooting off some good blocks from way downtown , that took this team to win the championship by the score of 39 to 38. . Boy, you gotta believe..The KOKOMO KARDIAC KIDS gave us a great ride tonight  to venture into the final four.. Another accolade of great defense great shooting and great heroics by the five on the floor to win this game  and the Regional

ELKHART SEMI-STATE
2-26-2005
Kokomo & Gary West

Well, we knew it could happen, as our ride to Indy came to a halt as The Kokomo LadyKat express made an unsceduled stop losing to Gary west in the Elkhart Semi-state, This was a game that we could of won if not for a lot of turnovers and fouls, but it just wasn't to be. Gary West took this one by a score of 49 to 47. Little Mac and Olivia were saddled with foul problems early and that sort of set the tempo of the day as Gary West turned some of those turnovers into points. All in all though, it was a good game and typical of a tourament game. Lots of score changing and a lot of determination by our LadyKats to want to win. In the end though it was Gary West who will go to Indy to take on the North Central Ladies in what could be a great game. We have a great future with only two seniors gradulating this year and you know that our Ladies will be ready to jump aboard the LadyKat Express once more and it is a good chance that next year might be the year of our Kokomo LadyKats to go to Indy to win it all. We had fun watching them and The Day brothers will be there sitting in Section five in our same seats we have had for a long long time. Great season, a lot of fun watching them and our future looks great. Thanks LadyKats for another season of fun.
